Top 10 Disney Movies

Over the years, Disney has produced some of the most memorable movies. They have taught us about finding the truth inside of our hearts, and given us the strength to make it through the hard times. With characters cut from real life, we'll take a moment to look at the top 10 Disney movies.

# 10 Robin Hood

Disney sported a fox for the title character and brought the timeless classic to the big screen. It gave young viewers the chance to see that sometimes doing the right thing might seem like it is wrong to others, and gave us brave heroics.

# 9 Cinderella

Everyone has a dream that is set to come true, and that is what this tale is about. Even in the darkest moments of our lives, there is the chance to find our fairytale ending. More importantly, we learn about friendship and trusting those in our lives.

# 8 Aladdin

This movie took us on a magic carpet ride that taught us about friendship and faith, while giving us a good chuckle thanks to Robin Williams. With some of the best hand drawn animation that Disney every put out, this is one of the most memorable movies of all time.

# 7 Bambi

Heartbreaking and real, the film was about growing up and finding out that even in our darkest hours we can find the truth. This is one of the few times that a movie has touched many people in dramatic ways, and was brilliantly done with strong vocal actors.

# 6 Mulan

Taking away from the traditional Disney princess heroes, Mulan showed a new and exciting side to the Disney Legacy. This classic tale delivered a number of emotional blows while holding a solid story and delivering a beautiful soundtrack that many will always remember.

# 5 The Little Mermaid

Growing up different can be hard for some people. But for Ariel, it just seemed part of her life. With an award winning soundtrack and a mesmerizing storyline, this animated tale quickly became one of the best films from Disney. This was the one time that Disney truly shined with the different is beautiful concept.

# 4 Snow White and the Seven Dwarves

This classic was the groundbreaking film for Disney. Brilliantly written and drawn, children today still love the tale of Snow White and the 7 new friends she made in the middle of the woods. In fact, the Wicked Queen is among the best villains of all time as well. This is truly a timeless classic.

# 3 Lady and the Tramp

A beautiful tale about love that isn't quite a fairy tale and it is done brilliantly. Here, we have two lovers who are from different walks of life. The Lady falls in love with the homeless Tramp and they both find a change inside of their hearts. Well voiced and it has a tale that will still bring most people to tears. This is a phenomenal classic that shouldn't be missed.

# 2 The Lion King

From Elton John's award winning soundtrack to detailed scenery this coming of age story has captured the hearts of millions. In this tale we learn about the inner truth and strength in ourselves and have the ability to push forward, even in the darkest of times. It was also the first Disney movie to get a sequel, and rightfully so. This is among the best that Disney has ever offered the viewing public.

#1 Beauty and the Beast

The ultimate love story was one that had people stop dead in their tracks. Not only did this movie offer brilliant vocal talents and an award winning song that broke the hearts of millions, but it also gave us the hope that in all of us there is something special, and no matter what our shell looks like, there will be someone out there that will see the inner beauty in us, and fall in love with that person. Because as Gaston proved, beauty is only skin deep.

Each of these movies will hold a place in our hearts for years to come. These are timeless classics that even today seem modern and relevant in our culture and society as well.

The Top Animated Movies Of All Times

The list of the "top animated movies of all time" falls into an entirely different category to all other movies. In the past animated movies were created by artists who drew endless pictures of moving figures. Today, animation is based on the advanced technology of the age. The modern animator sits and manipulates the images on the computer.

In the past, animated movies were for only for kids. Coloured movies like Snow White or Cinderella. Now a days you can find grown ups sitting in cinemas with no children in sight watching movies like Shrek and Nemo.

In our family, we make sure we go see all the animated movies so we can joke and laugh, and recite them at dinnertime together. Animation is no longer only for the young ones.

When you go through the top 10 animated movies, you can see they are all new (the oldest one being from 1992)

o The top most animated movie was "Shrek 2" which was a Disney production and came out in theatres in 2004. "Shrek 2" made a total worldwide gross income of $920,665,658. Shrek 2 came out only three years after Shrek first appeared and become one of the most profitable animated movies. (the movie, Shrek is the 9th profitable movie of all times)

o The second best animated movie was "Finding Nemo". DreamWorks Production made this movie and it totaled a worldwide gross income of $864,625,978

o The third animated movie was the oldest movie in the top 10 animation movies of all times. The movie "The Lion King" came out in 1994 and had a total worldwide gross income of $783,841,776

o The 4th animated movie was the Disney movie "The Incredibles" (2004) with a total worldwide gross income of $631,436,092

o The 5th animated movie was "Monster's Inc" (2001) with total worldwide gross income of $529,061,238

o The 6th animated movie was another DreamWorks movie, "Madagascar" (2005) with a total worldwide gross income of $527,890,631

o The seventh animated movie was "Aladdin" in 1992. It was a DreamWorks movie. This movie totaled a worldwide gross income was $504,050,219

o The eighth animated movie was Disney's production "Toy Story 2" from 1999 and had a total worldwide gross income of $485,015,179.

o The ninth animated movie was none other than "Shrek" (2001) with a total worldwide gross income of $484,409,218, almost half of "Shrek 2".

o The 10th animated movie was "Tarzan" (1999). Which was a Disney movie, with a total worldwide gross income of $449,391,819

It is easy to see from the list that DreamWorks and Disney are leading the animation industry and that their move to advanced animation technology has contributed greatly to their success.

While many people think that sequels are just leveraging the first movie and have nothing extra to give the audience, we can learn from the list of the top animated movies that sequels have a great advantage and have a potential to break profit records. Shrek 2 and Toy Story are great indicators of that.

Because animation is based on technology, and many of the animated movies are computer generated, it is funny to write, "Top animated movies". The progress of technology is speeding so fast that by the time I finish writing this article, a new animated movie, made with new technology, will jump into the top 10 list of the most profitable movies of all time.

The Top 5 Movies of 2008

These are the films that made us laugh, the films that made us cry, and the films that brought us out of our seats. Some were blockbusters, while others slipped across the silver screen without much critical acclaim. Of course, many people will find this list to be completely off, as is only natural. For our legal team's benefit, these picks are highly subjective and should by no means be taken as definitive. That said, make absolutely sure to check out each one on satellite TV at your earliest convenience.

Slumdog Millionaire: Set in the slums of Mumbai, India, Slumdog Millionaire is a powerful story of the vast capabilities of the human spirit. Though the plot revolves around a young Indian boy, one could almost make the argument that the story is uniquely American in that it is a classic "pulled up by the bootstraps" tale. We won't give away any more of the story, but suffice it to say that this will be one of the most drama packed two hours you'll encounter in a movie theater this year. Slum Dog's recent Oscar nomination is certainly well deserved.

The Dark Knight: Heath Ledger's last hurrah is a wild three hour ride through the streets of Gotham. Though it lacks the tightness of Christian Bale's first casting as Batman, the Dark Knight is certainly still worth your time. Most critics agree that Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is equal to (if not better than) Jack Nicholson's performance from the 1980s. That's no small feat. Indeed, the makeup that the Joker sports in the Dark Knight is more than enough to keep kiddies up at night. When you add his creepy demeanor, you'll understand why he's a sure lock for this year's Best Actor award.

Son of Rambow: This movie probably doesn't really have a place on this list, but it would be a disservice to leave Sly's latest flick off of it. That's not mentioning that he's a pretty scary guy, and you never know who's reading what on the Internet. Though a worthy addition to the Rambow pantheon, Son of Rambow doesn't have quite the same appeal as its 1970s and 1980s brethren. Still, the action scenes are phenomenal, and you'll want to catch them on high definition television to really do them justice.

Religilous: Either you love Bill Maher, or you hate him. If it's the latter in your case, we highly suggest skipping this flick. For fans of the comic, however, it's a must see. His exploration of the more laughable points of the world's religions are entertaining, if nothing else.

Rachel Getting Married: We'll end the list with an Indie movie, and quite a powerful one at that. Rachel Getting Married is the story of the strength of sisterhood. A marriage in the family brings Kyrn leaves rehab to come back home for her sister's wedding, everything starts to come undone. Well acted, well directed, and well written, Rachel Getting Married is one that you won't want to miss.

Most of these movies are already available on satellite TV or at your local movie rental store. Check them out today for some great entertainment.

Best Kids Movies in 2009 by Popular Demand

When taking a look at what might be the Best Kids Movies in 2009, a number of different ideas can enter in such as strictly the "best" new release movies, the best movie sales in theatres, best by critical acclaim, etc., etc.

I decided to boil this subject down to a simple list of movies that were most popular by sales in the formats of DVD and Blu-Ray - they do in fact include some new releases for the year of 2009, but there are some re-makes of classics this year that come toward the top of the list.

And what a list! Here it is:

1. Disney Pixar Up - Yes, Disney and Pixar have done it again. This is one of the most entertaining Pixar movies yet! The story is about an elderly balloon salesman that decides to fulfill his dream (in a way many people would consider a bit unusual) - and there are some others along for the ride. This is a nice movie for kids of any age and is very amusing!

2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - The sixth year at Hogwarts brings the most adventure yet - Harry discovers his exact role in the final defeat of Voldemort. Another great Harry Potter movie, and a "must see" for any Harry Potter fan.

3. Coraline - This movie has the same director as The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. It might be considered the "darkest" of them all! It is about a young girl named Coraline who desires major changes in her family relationships - but perhaps discovers that her life might not be so bad after all... (As a note, I don't personally recommend this movie for very young kids due to it's "spooky" and more than a bit bizarre nature.)

4. High School Musical 3: Senior Year - In this High School Musical version, Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Chad, Ryan and Taylor are in their final year of high school and they decide together to make it the most unforgettable year yet. A fun movie, especially for young ones who love these characters and/or movies.

5. Pinocchio 70th Anniversary - Here is the first of the "classics" on the list of the Best Kids Movies 2009, and it's a delightful movie for any age. The re-make of this movie is rather spectacular, and the message of courage, honesty and integrity is always a good one.

6. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Yes, here is another movie on the hottest sellers for kids this year! It's impressive how the movie appears and sounds in digital format - especially Blu-Ray. This is a favorite for very young kids and little ladies too.

7. Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs - The plot thickens for the unlikely prehistoric crew when Mannie and Ellie are expecting a little Mammoth in their family. It creates some interesting changes in the crew and some rather amusing events take place. Fun movie!

8. The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary - This is the third and final of the classic movies on this list and is an amazing re-make of the original. In my opinion this is another movie that is not the best for very young children - that wicked old witch can be just a tad bit too scary, but is a fun movie for families and kids about 6 or 7 and older.

9. Monsters vs. Aliens - This is one of the cutest newer movies on this list! The theme has an interesting twist - what if monsters were actually the good guys? A fun choice and a nice job by Reese Witherspoon who plays the main character, Susan Murphy.

10. Bolt - Personally I think this is one of the cutest movies I have seen for kids. It is about a dog who stars as a superhero in film and begins to take the role a bit too seriously. The plot thickens when he loses his owner and has to go out on his own to find her. John Travolta plays the role of Bolt and does a fabulous job!

Some may disagree with one or more of the movies above in terms of what they consider to be the "Best Kids Movies 2009", but strictly in terms of popular demand the above selections appear to comprise the definitive list. Speaking on a personal level I believe that these are some of the best movies for kids ever!

Top Ten Best Action Movies

Here are the ten best action movies that got our adrenaline pumping and the dynamite exploding. We love action movies and have seen hundreds in our time.

10. Robocop: A cop is transformed after he is brutally murdered execution style by a notorious gang leader. He becomes a super crime fighter, a Robo Cop who is mostly machine with some remnants of his human memory/life. This film had lots of innovative fight scenes with robots, when that was the huge craze and robots were just becoming known in the late 80's. Interestingly, Darren Aronofsky has been hired to film the remake, and Aronofsky is a brilliant director (The Fountain, The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream).

9. Commando: One of Arnold's earlier films in the 80's, the title speaks for itself. Schwarzenegger is on a mission to get back his kidnapped daughter, and not even an army will stand in his way. "You know when I said I'd kill you last... I lied." This is Arnold doing what he does best, shooting machine guns and blowing stuff up. A movie where you don't have to think.

8. Mission Impossible: Another great film with suspense and excitement. The Mission Impossible team is stealthy and sneaky. Suspended above lasers detection and holding on for dear life as an elevator rockets towards the ceiling. This message will self destruct in five seconds.

7. Rocky: You gotta love this one, "Yo Adrian!". Rocky Balboa is the prototypical Philly Boxer, he don't know much, but he can fight. This series was full of excitement except for Rocky V, that one sucked. But with Rocky heads up against fighters like Apollo, Clubber, and Drago, there is tons of boxing action!

6. The Transporter: Fast cars, fast fighting, and hot women. What could be better? Not much, "The Transporter" has it all and like to show off. The car chase scenes and fight choreography are to be admired. The plot is intriguing too, the women, are the package to be delivered.

5. Rambo: An ex special forces guy who can take out an entire police department with a rock and some sharp sticks. The Rambo series show us that with enough will power and makeshift technology, one man can be "an army of one". One thing you don't want to do is get on Rambo's bad side. And yes they've made too many in the series, Stallone obviously never says die.

4. Aliens: The first and second and resurrection films in this series were well done. The Aliens depicted in these films are not to be messed with. They are scary looking and will haunt your dreams. Only flamethrowers and a helluva lot of ammunition will take them down. And even then after you shoo them, there could be acid splash back at you. Only Ripley seems to know how to take them down, and maybe that's because she is carrying one of them inside her, and they don't want to kill their own. These Aliens are like worker ants only much bigger and much deadlier. The hierarchy is the same though.

3. Predator: How do you kill what you can't see? Arnold thinks "if it bleeds we can kill it". Easier said than done as the Predator lives for the hunt and wants humans for trophies. His technology is vastly superior to the measly humans, but lucky for them he will fight on their level for "honor". This is the only weakness that allow Arnold to have a sporting chance.

2. Terminator: First Schwarzenegger plays a cyborg from the future that comes to kill Sarah Connor, then in T2 he plays one that comes to save Jon Connor to fight for the resistance against Sky Net. I don't know why but I always think that this apocalyptic scenario is always possible with our technology available. We all await to see whether Terminator: Salvation will be a blockbuster or a failure.

1. Die Hard: "yippy ka yay" This film has action ingrained in its cellophane. Most definitely the best action film of all time. An NYPD cop is trapped in Nakatomi plaza with a bunch of terrorist who hold his wife's co workers hostage at during an office party. John McClane slips away when they seize control, and manages to undermine and kill off the terrorist one by one. John McTiernan directed this film along with the Predator film, and does an impeccable job.

The Top Movies on Movie Lists

For the past 10 years or so it has been discussed and argued about which movies are truly the best movies. Below, I will go through some of the most popular movie list sources and dissect the validity.

The AFI Top Movies of all time: Since 1998 and as recent as this year, many great movies have been posted to this list. It always begins with Citizen Kane as the top movie of all time and then ending with which ever movie deserved to be on the movie list the last time. Some have been kicked off since 1998 and some new ones have been added. One of the oddest additions has to be "The Sixth Sense." While recognized as a shocker and one that has possibly changed how endings are made, it is now mostly known as a good overall movie, but has not aged well. The AFI Top Movie List is compiled by critics, writers, journalists, creators, producers, etc. The validity of the list is definitely not mainstream as 70% of the American Population has not heard of half of the movies that appear on the list. None the less, most of the movies on the list are incredible movies if watched with an open mind. They are more than just movies.

Roger Ebert's great movie list.: How can one man say he knows what movies are the greatest of all time - and why would people believe him? Simple, he is a creative writer, fairly mainstream in nature, and rarely negative. He likes all kinds of movies. He does not rank each of his movies, but does some times say roughly where he would put his movies on a list. He believes strongly in what he thinks. He rarely changes his mind. His problem is that he has way too many films on his list. He also includes his favorites that don't really apply to most people's tastes. It's ok, because it is his list and not a computation.

Time Magazine: This may be the least familiar list. There are 1000 movies on it and all are noteworthy. But, there are a lot of sleepers. "The Fly" is one that comes to mind. It is a solid sci-fi, but does not fall on any major list (or many minor lists). Most of the movies many people have not heard of. It is a good list to go by for advanced movie watchers (once they have watched the entire AFI).

The final list that will be reviewed is IMDB (internet movie database). It is one of the few internet only movie lists. It is compiled by 100s of 1000s of votes. This is a list compiled by normal users, critics, and anyone who has internet access. IMDB is a great list to go by for novices and experts. Its top movies do change regularly, which is a good thing as it gives new movies a chance to make the list.

None of the lists are perfect, and none of them are bad. A good rule of thumb is to use all lists - watch all movies on the lists, and then tell others about it. Enjoy the greatest movies of all time!

Top 5 Fighter Plane Movies

There are two things we're all looking for in a good fighter plane movie: fighter planes, and non-stop action. Some films that claim to be fighter plane movies contain plenty of the latter but surprisingly few of the former. I'm not naming any names here, but *cough* Firefox *cough*. If you've only got two hours of spare time, you've got one shot at choosing the right movie. The following five films are the best of the best of the genre. They should be the first films you reach for on the DVD rack.

#5. Into the Sun

A fighter pilot on active duty overseas has to put up with an annoying movie star following him everywhere - even into combat - as research for his new film role.

Released: 1992 by Trimark Pictures

Starring: Michael Pare, Anthony Michael Hall

Featured Planes: F-16 Fighting Falcons

Few people have ever heard of (or can find a copy of) Into the Sun, which is a shame, because it's one of the cleverest, funniest films in the genre. It's not a spoof, like Hot Shots, but it manages to poke fun at the stereotypes while still hitting all the story points we need in a fighter plane film.

#4. Flyboys

A World War I fighter pilot stationed with the famous Lafayette squadron in France struggles to fend off the Germans and protect the French woman he's falling in love with.

Released: 2006 by 20th Century Fox

Starring: James Franco, Jean Reno

Featured Planes: Nieuport 17s

This is a must-see for anyone who thinks biplanes are boring. The greater danger these pilots faced because of the fragility of their equipment makes the dogfight sequences in Flyboys some of the most tense and harrowing in the genre.

#3. Battle of Britain

In the summer of 1940, a small group of British pilots fight desperately to keep the Nazi Luftwaffe from bombing their country into submission and opening the way for a land invasion.

Released: 1969 by MGM/United Artists

Starring: Michael Caine, Lawrence Olivier

Featured Planes: Spitfires, Hurricanes, Heinkel 111s, ME-109s, etc.

There is only one word for the aerial sequences in Battle of Britain: amazing. With so many planes in the air, it looks like a nest of angry hornets, and the best part is that they're all real. There was no CGI in 1969. The story is a bit confusing for people who don't know their history, but the massive dogfights more than make up for it.

#2. Top Gun

A cocky young fighter pilot gets his chance to go up against the best pilots in the Navy when he's chosen for the fighter weapons school nicknamed "Top Gun."

Released: 1986 by Paramount Pictures

Starring: Tom Cruise, Val Kilmet

Featured Planes: F-14 Tomcats, A-4 Skyhawks, Mig-28s (actually F-5 Tiger IIs)

Top Gun is the seminal film of the genre. It spawned numerous popular quotes ("I have a need, a need for speed!") and ignited a resurgence of interest in the fighter plane genre. It's very 80s, especially in the soundtrack, but hardly a minute goes by where we're not treated to heartstopping aerial action. Always a solid pick.

#1. Stealth

A fighter pilot is forced to go head to head with his own wingman: a futuristic, artificially intelligent fighter plane that has gone rogue.

Released: 2005 by Columbia Pictures

Starring: Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel

Featured Planes: futuristic fighters

There's a sizeable element of science fiction in Stealth, which only serves to make it all the more awesome. All the impossible feats you ever daydreamed of pulling in a fighter are here and the sprawling story even manages to be unpredictable. Stealth is underrated, and comes highly recommended... by me.

Top 10 Romantic Movies of Hollywood

Movies have always created an aura of magic and charm in the world of dream. A larger than life portrayal of characters, which make deep impressions in the sensitive minds of film lovers, remain forever. Hundreds of films are being made every year. But only a few movies can create that magic spell on its viewers. These dreams which are gracefully created on the silver screen, make a permanent place in the hearts of millions of movie lovers.

It is very hard for anyone to select the top10 romantic movies of a lifetime. Since every good romantic film has its own charm and delicacy. Even then, there are very few films, which never loose its charm even with age.

One film like that has to be" Roman Holiday" which starred Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. A glamorously created movie set in Rome. It is the tale of a beautiful princess who is bored with her daily routine of grandeur and opulence. So she sets off for a quick look at the regular life of ordinary people and ends up at the quaint little apartment of Gregory Peck who happens to be a journalist. Thus the romance starts between the princess and the pauper. The dramatic and yet unhappy ending of this film makes it immortal in its genre.

A second film in the romantic category has got be "Anastasia" starring Yule Breyner and Grace Kelly. Though a Russian folk tale, the film was adapted and created esthetically in the backdrop of Russia. It is the ultimate dream made visible on the celluloid. The fantasy and fairy tale romance between gorgeous Grace Kelly and tough Yule Breyner makes this film an evergreen tale of romance.

At third place there is "Walk In The Clouds", which stars Keanu Reeves and Aitana Sanchez-Gijon. Shot in northern California the film narrates a very mushy love between two strangers in the beautiful intoxicating vineyards of northern California.

Fourth, a film that comes to mind is a different kind of a love story, which is named "Ghost" starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. The name says it is not a love between two mortal human beings but between a wife and her dead husband, who loves his lovely wife so dearly that even after his death he protects her from every possible danger. Then comes Whoopi Goldberg whose character becomes immortal as ever. She even won her first Oscar for this role. Did I miss to say that Ghost was her first film?

Fifth, "Pearl Harbor" takes its place in the list of top 10 movies. This movie is set in the backdrop of the second world war and the notorious destruction caused by the Japanese on the Pearl Harbor. Kate Bekinsale and Ben Afflek looked like a twosome in this film. It is a real love story in the time of distress. The cinematography was excellent as were the songs, which were sung by Faith Hill.

Sixth comes "Titanic", an all time favorite of everyone. The famous song sung by Celine Dion has made a permanent place in the hearts of millions.

Seventh comes "When Harry met Sally", a fun movie to watch. Meg Ryan is marvelous in this movie. A romantic comedy in genre, this film is a delight to watch.

Eighth, it is "Pretty Woman" a heart-warming movie with all the commercial ingredients. The star cast is the main attraction of this movie.

Ninth, it is '"You've Got Mail" starring the evergreen pair Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. This film is a first of its kind.

And lastly it is none other than "Splash", which is again a very unusual love story between a mermaid played by swimmer Daryll Hannah and a small time employee characterized by Tom Hanks.

The 10 Best Comedy Movies of All Time

If you are looking for an alternative to the boring regular channels of TV and wish to enjoy some pure comedy movies in your DVD or Blu-ray, you need to check out my top 10 best comedy movies of all time.

Comedy movies have always been appreciated for their light touch, humor, and hidden message they convey through satire to the masses of movie viewers. From mind-blank comedies, to meaningful funny movies, you can enjoy them anytime of the day to get a laugh. And laughter is the best medicine to forget all worries.

Here is the list of my selected top ten best comedy movies of all time:

Ace Ventura Pet Detective:

This is often rated as the most hilarious and most mind-blank comedy movie of all time. This Jim Carrey flick enabled him to gain fame as the most comic hero of the century. Ace Ventura has some scenes where you find yourself falling down laughing at the idiotic activities of the protagonist. And this has also been considered Jim Carrey's funniest movie ever.

Zoolander:

Another popular comedian, Ben Stiller, takes to his wits in this movie with Will Farrell. This is a great comedy to watch at home in your home theater with family and friends. You will laugh almost throughout the movie. The digital copy of the movie is available in Blu-ray format too.

Royal Tanenbaums:

This is a dark comedy with some meaning in it. Though this won't make you laugh like a mad man, this comedy is still considered a very good comedy movie thanks to some clever and funny scenes which make it one of my great comedy movies of all time.

Me, Myself And Irene - This is another good comedy by comedy king, Jim Carrey. The character of Hank makes the movie worth watching. It is available in both DVD and Blu-ray formats. The split personality of Jim Carrey would make anyone laugh like a maniac.

Pineapple Express:

You will realize watching this movie why Seth Rogen is often called the best comic actor of recent years. He proves to be a really funny guy in this movie along with other funny guys like Red and Saul.

Austin Powers:

International Man Of Mystery - While preparing the list of my best comedies of all time one won't be able to exclude this adventurous and hilarious journey of Austin Powers himself.

Happy Gilmore:

Adam Saddler is known for his comedies and if you want to see him doing his best comedy, get Happy Gilmore this weekend.

Life Of Brian:

This is the best work of the Monty Python team. You are going to love watching it with your family around.

Ace Ventura:

When Nature Calls - Like the previous Ace Ventura movie, this one manages to maintain humorous moments throughout.

Tropic Thunder:

The final 30 minutes and the beginning of the movie actually bring this great comedy to my list of top 10 comedy movies.

Top Five Vampire Movies of All Time

Vampires have always fascinated us. Their preternatural strength, pale white skin, and penchant for blood is strangely alluring and yet grotesque all at once. People simply like vampires, despite the fact that they are supposed to be minions of hell, just look at shows like Buffy and True Blood (both of which you can still catch, courtesy of satellite TV). Our fascination with the undead has produced a whole array of movies, good and bad. Here's a look at some of the best of the bunch.

Interview with a Vampire: Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Antonio Banderas all playing vampires. Enough said. The movie, based on the Anne Rice novels, is vampire cinema at its perfect pitch. You've got the brooding, the atmosphere, the regret, the longing, the sultry southern setting, the fangs, and of course, the blood. This vampire flick makes vampires look vulnerable and sexy all at once. Who can resist? And then there's the very young Kirsten Dunst playing the child vampire Claudia. The doomed trio, Lestat, Louis and Claudia make one happily damned family, until things start getting rough. Catch this one on satellite TV.

Shadow of a Vampire: Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich star in this vampire tale. Malkovich depicts the director F. W. Murnau as he films his classic Nosferatu. Dafoe plays the actor Max Schreck, a method actor who will only perform in full costume and makeup at all times. The cast later learns that Schreck is actually a real vampire. He has struck a deal with Murnau, who promise the vampire the actress Greta Schroeder as his prize. In the end, the cast and crew of the set is terrorized, Schroeder meets a grisly fate and Murnau loses his mind. This is a great little Vampire movie. Watch it and enjoy.

From Dusk to Dawn: This is camp and gore at its best. From Dusk to Dawn stars George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino as a pair of murdering assassin robbers who stumble into the wrong part of town. The movie suddenly shifts to the bizarre mid plot. First we're following the escaped robbers as they terrorize a young family; next, it's vampires and Salma Hayek doing a sexy snake dance. This movie is seriously crazy, but in a good way. Watch all the blood and gore in HD. Don't forget the popcorn.

30 Days of Night: This movie is all about the gore. Based on the graphic novel, this movie takes place in a dark and dreary Alaska. The town of Barrow is shrouded in darkness for thirty days and the vampires come out to play. It's good stuff. You've got lots of spilled guts and bloods, great for HD viewing. Check out the action on satellite TV.

Nosferatu: This is of course, a classic of classics. Nosferatu was filmed by the famed director FW Murnau. It features the long eared Count Orlock, a spectacle of creepiness. Although it's from way back in 1922, this film still manages to spook you.

Movies For Kids - Lots of Cool Fun For Summer 2009

Another hot summer of cool movies that kids will love is upon us. Here is a list of the best bets, based on early info.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, PG, May 22 - Ben Stiller is back as a security guard who must deal with all too realistic museum displays: this time in DC. With cast of name stars, this one should be fine if your youngsters liked the first movie and want more.

Up, PG, May 29 - Pixar's computer animated films are usually a no-question required kid viewing. This one features a grumpy old man voiced by Ed Asner who ties balloons to his house and departs on an aerial adventure.

Land of the Lost, PG-13, June 5 - Will Farrell heads the reboot of this '70s Saturday morning kid's classic. Why does a children's show adaptation have a PG-13 rating? We suspect the dinosaurs get a bit rough and the land gets a bit too creepy. Take caution with the small fry with this one.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, June 3 - The second sequel to the popular animated Ice Age, this one resurrects new animal characters from an earlier era. The trailer looks like great fun. Not yet rated, expect a PG rating, as the first 2 films had.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, PG-13, July 15 - This sixth time out for Harry Potter is a no-miss for the young Potter fan, and promises many new magical moments as the Harry and his friends struggle with adolescence. Many say that the series has become progressively darker and more disturbing, but older kids should enjoy it.

G-Force, PG, July 24 - This new Disney animated offering a heroic team of guinea pig secret agents save the world. Will Arnett appears as live-action leader to cute animated rodents voiced by Nicolas Cage and PenØ£©lope Cruz.

Aliens in the Attic, July 31 - Based on Caldecott award winning children's novel, a group of teens protect a family vacation home from gremlins-like aliens. Features Hanna Montana's Ashley Tisdale and experienced monster fighter Carter Jenkins (Surface).

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, August 7 - This much hyped action film names an elite team of crimefighters after the classic Mattel toy. It features an impressive cast headed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sienna Miller. Not yet rated, but look for a hard PG-13 for this one.

Shorts, PG, August 7 - This one looks like another fun special effects filled offering for and about kids from the director of the Spy Kids series. This time a boy creates havoc in the suburbs when he discovers a rock that grants wishes to the holder.

Ponyo, August 14 - Disney adds an all-star voice cast to this anime film by Oscar winning Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. It tells a fairy tale-like story of a little boy who befriends a goldfish that longs to be a human princess.

Top 5 Teen Movies of All Time - In My Opinion

There are 5 movies that I watched as a young teen and even now I would be happy to watch over and over again - I cannot wait until my kids are a little older so I have an excuse to watch them all over again. I could not decide on what order to place them in - so in no particular order the five movies I would recommend everyone watch are:

The Goonies - an American adventure-comedy film from 1985 directed by Richard Donner. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. A band of kids from the "Goon Docks" neighbourhood of Astoria, Oregon, hope to save their homes from demolition for the expanding Astoria Country Club, set off on an adventure to find the buried treasure of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate after finding a map in the attic. Stars Sean Astin and Corey Feldman in a fun filled action packed movie about friendship, first kisses, adventure, gadgets, crooks, pirates and treasure.

Gremlins - Billy (Zach Galligan), receives a small furry creature called a Mogwai as a Christmas present from his grandfather with three instructions to follow: 1. Never expose the Mogwai to bright lights, 2. Never put it in water and 3. Never feed it after midnight. Billy names his Mogwai 'Gizmo'. Billy and Gizmo bond, but Billy's friend Pete accidentally spills a glass of water over Gizmo, causing five more Mogwai to spawn. These five turn out to be a little more mischievous. They manage to trick Billy into feeding them after midnight and it is not long before chaos erupts in the small town of Kingston Falls.

Back To The Future - An American science fiction adventure comedy film from Steven Spielberg released in 1985 starring Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Film tells the story of Marty McFly, a teenager accidentally sent back in time from 1985 to 1955. He bumps into his parents in high school and accidentally attracts his mother's romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents to fall in love, whilst finding a way to return to 1985.

Lost Boys - is a 1987 American horror film about two brothers from Arizona who move to California and end up fighting a group of teenage vampires. It stars Jason Patric, Corey Haim and Kiefer Sutherland, with co-stars Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Dianne West, Edward Herrmann, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander and Barnard Hughes. The film was directed by Joel Schumacher and has to be one of the best vampire movies ever produced with the coolest soundtrack.

Ghostbusters - is a 1984 American comedy film written by co-stars Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis about three eccentric New York City parapsychologists-turned-ghost exterminators. After losing their jobs at Columbia University, a trio of misfit parapsychologists: Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz and Egon Spengler start their own paranormal exterminator service called 'Ghostbusters'. They operate out of an abandoned fire station and get off to a slow start..."Who you gonna call?"

Confession time: I still have my 'Gizmo' from the 80's! But The 'Goonies' is probably my favourite of the 5 if I had to choose.

Top 5 Tom Hanks Movies

Tom Hanks is quite possibly the best actor of our time. He has played a variety of roles in a variety of great movies. To narrow down his "best" movies to 5 is no easy task. However, I will give it a go.

When taking into account the quality of the movie and the quality of his acting, these are the five best:

5. Castaway

This is a great love story. But the plane crash is an awesome action sequence. And Hanks is exceptional on the island and when he returns back to civilization.

In this movie must be the only time in the history of movies that viewers cried over a grown man losing a ball.

4. Big

This movie put Hanks on the map. No longer was he known as the "cross-dresser from Bossom Buddies".

Hanks plays a 13 (or about that) year old boy who's trying to make it in New York City after being changed into a grown man (made "Bigger").

The story is great and the performance by Hanks is even better.

3. Philadelphia

Hanks took home an Academy Award for his performance in this movie.

He plays a lawyer who is dying from Aids. He as convincing in this role as he is in his role as a leader of soldiers in my next selection.

2. Saving Private Ryan

This is one of the only movies that stuck with me for days after I saw it. There are great performances all around but Hanks leads the group.

This is a must-see movie and it's one of Hanks' best performances.

1. Forrest Gump

Any movie that can have a catch line like "Life is like a box of chocolates" catch-on for years has to be a great movie.

I don't know that any other actor in Hollywood could've played this role as well as Hanks. He wasn't Tom Hanks in this movie. He was... well, Forrest... Forrest Gu-ump.

I must say that there is one more movie that deserves mentioning here. This movie hangs in the abyss between when Hanks made his break-out performance (Big) and his comeback performance (A League of Their Own). It's a movie called The Burbs and it's great. It's not intellectual in anyway but it's funny - hilarious in parts. And it's still one of my all-time favorites (top 50 anyway).

Top Disney Pixar - 2010 Movie Favorites

Disney Pixar has a way of making movies that appeal to just about everyone, of every age. It would be next to impossible to personally choose what I think would be the Top Disney Pixar movies - my family and I love a number of them and call them each a "favorite". However, in terms of overall popularity, there can be a such thing as picking a "best" list.

With that in mind, here are the Top 5 Disney Pixar movies coming into the year 2010:

1. Disney Pixar Up - This movie is the most recently released on DVD and involves a retired (and rather elderly) balloon salesman who decides to "beat the system" and go on the ride of his life - with balloons! A very cute film, with some funny moments as well as some truly touching ones.

2. Pixar Toy Story - I believe that this is the first of the Pixar movies, and is obviously still a favorite since it remains toward the top of the list of popular movies for kids and family. Always a good pick to watch - especially if you feel like you need a good laugh!

3. Toy Story 2 - The follow-up to the first Toy Story movie, this film has a unique storyline that is just as entertaining as the first. There are some funny new characters as well, and has some dramatic moments that take the viewers from laughter to being "on the edge of their seats".

4. Monsters Inc. - The Monsters Inc movie comes next in line in popularity this year. It has a story that is unlike any other I've seen, with a merging of two separate worlds that kids sometimes even have nightmares about, but with the world of the "monsters" not actually being scary at all.

5. Pixar Finding Nemo - Here is a story that will likely always be a favorite for kids and families to watch. An adorable story about a "little boy" clown fish who years for more personal freedom and a father who is afraid to bend the rules. Very sweet, truly funny as well.

There are (of course) more movies from the Disney Pixar lineup - and I understand that more will be released this year! However, if you are looking for a great movie for kids and families to watch you will be hard pressed to beat the list above of Top Disney Pixar movies for 2010.

Top 10 Boxing Movies

Mark your calendars. Odd as it may seem, today may be the day that Marky Mark (sans the Funky Bunch) joins the company of such greats as Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Will Smith, Russell Crowe and so on. Today, The Fighter opens up in theaters across the country. With as much buzz and acclaim the movie has been receiving, this could very well end up going down as one of the best boxing movies of all-time.

In light of The Fighter's release, I thought now would be an appropriate time to make that list. My top boxing movies. The sport has been visited many a times throughout the history of cinema. Here, though, we narrow it down to the top 10. So without further ado, my Top 10 Boxing Movies.

10. Play It To the BonePlay It To the Bone was written and directed by Ron Shelton. The movie stars Antonio Banderas and Woody Harrelson. Lolita Davidovich co-stars.

The movie is the story of two aging fighters, Cesar (Banderas) and Vincent (Harrelson), who are close friends. In the twilight of their careers, the two are given one last fight with a title shot up for grabs. The kicker: they'll be fighting each other. The two boxers and friends set out to Vegas for their undercard bout, accompanied by Grace (Davidovich); Cesar's girlfriend and Vincent's ex. Along the way, we get a look into their past careers and their competitive friendship. Come fight time, what should have been a typical bout that no one has interest in, soon becomes the fight of the night as the two beat the hell out of each other. Cesar and Vincent leave it all in the ring, with something to prove to themselves and each other, they "play it to the bone". A definite fight to remember.

Now, Play It To the Bone was pretty much critically-panned. Call it my like for Woody Harrelson, or my sappy underdog side, but I enjoyed it. There's plenty of humor, a fun road trip and one hell of a fight. Granted it's not the greatest of movies, but definitely one of my more favorite boxing movies.

9. Resurrecting The ChampResurrecting The Champ was written by Michael Bortman and Allison Burnett. It was directed by Rod Lurie and stars Samuel L Jackson and Josh Hartnett.

Hartnett plays a young sports writer who rescues a homeless man "Champ" (Jackson) only to find out that "Champ" is a boxing legend that was believed to be dead. The writer then sets out to resurrect Champ's story and elevate his own career. The movie is based on real events and an LA Times Magazine article by the same name.

Granted this movie isn't so much about boxing, rather that's the underlying theme of it as it's about a down-on-his-luck former boxer and the sports writer who seeks to restore the destitute man and resurrect his tale. What starts as a tale to resurrect a man who was once great, turns into an examination of life and family. Samuel L Jackson turns in a very good performance in this movie. Bringing such a level of humanity to the character, Jackson's performance stands out in the film above all and you can't help but feel for Champ the whole way through.

8. AliWritten by Gregory Allen Howard and Stephen J. Rivele, Ali was directed by Michael Mann. Will Smith plays the title role of boxing icon and legend Muhammad Ali. Other roles include Jamie Foxx playing Ali's cornerman Drew Bundini Brown. Jon Voight also stars as the famed sports journalist Howard Cosell.

Ali is a biopic of the legendary boxer. It takes a look at his career from his title bout with Liston, to his conversion to Islam to the famous Rumble in the Jungle.

Will Smith turns in an excellent performance as the iconic boxer, even gaining significant weight to pull off the part. Voight also turns in a great performance as Foxx also does a fine job. On top of all that, the realism of the fights is like none other in any other movie, really. All fighters are played by professional boxers. They decided there would be no "illusion" to the fighting in this movie, but went for the real deal. Even the fights that involve Muhammad Ali are real. For instance, in Ali's bout with Foreman in the movie, Shufford (who played Foreman) was allowed to hit Will Smith as hard as he could to contribute to the realism. The only rule: don't really knock Smith out. With some great performances, some great fights and a look at the boxing icon, Ali is definitely a good one to watch.

7. The HurricaneBased on books The 16th Round by Rubin Carter and Lazarus and the Hurricane by Sam Chaiton and Terry Swinton, The Hurricane is directed by Norman Jewison. Denzel Washington stars in the title role.

The Hurricane is the biopic of boxer Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. Carter was wrongly imprisoned for a triple homicide and spent 20 years in prison before being pardoned. While not so much a boxing movie, The Hurricane is more a tale of redemption. A tale about how love can overcome hate and injustice. Washington gives one of the finest performances of his career as Hurricane and his supporters seek to fight back against the racism and hate that imprisons him.

6. Requiem for a HeavyweightBased on a teleplay written by Rod Serling, Requiem for a Heavyweight is directed by Ralph Nelson. The movie stars Anthony Quinn, Jackie Gleason and Mickey Rooney.

Anthony Quinn plays Mountain Rivera, a boxer at the end of his career after taking a beating from Cassius Clay. Being a proud man, Mountain must put that pride aside in order to save a friend. Finding out that manager bet against him, Mountain can only save his manager's life by taking a dive....in a wrestling match.

Requiem for a Heavyweight provides a tight story and a memorable story (even heartbreaking). With strong characters, Quinn does a great job playing the burnt-out boxer. One of the more memorable scenes from the movie happens at the beginning. Doing a point-of-view sequence (from Quinn's point of view), the movie chronicles Mountain's bout with Cassius Clay as flurries of punches fly at the screen/camera as Clay pummels Mountain.

5. DiggstownWritten by Leonard Wise and Steven McKay. Directed by Michael Ritchie. Diggstown stars James Woods and Louis Gossett Jr. Oliver Platt and Bruce Dern also star in the film.

Diggstown is the story of a conman (Woods), fresh out of prison, who stumbles into a small boxing-obsessed town in order to run his latest scam. He bets with the local tycoon that he knows a man that could knockout 10 men in 24 hours. The business man (Dern) takes that bet. The conman's fighter: over-the-hill 48 year-old fighter Honey Roy Palmer (Gossett Jr).

Diggstown is a rather fun movie with a nice cast. You get a fun con/heist/caper type movie mixed in with an underdog style boxing movie, making for an enjoyable time.

4. Cinderella ManWritten by Cliff Hollingsworth and directed by Ron Howard. Starring Russell Crowe. Renee Zellweger and Paul Giamatti also star.

Cinderella Man is the story of heavyweight champion James Braddock. After breaking his hand, the boxer's career is seemingly ended. He becomes a down-and-out man just trying to scrape by to support his family. That is until the day his former manager gets him a bout to basically be a "punching bag" for the number two contender in the world. However, to everybody's surprise, Braddock scores a knockout against the contender. This adds a spark to his career as Braddock returns to the ring.

Cinderella Man is a great underdog tale that is an inspiring story. Though not initially doing well in theaters, the movie went on to be very much acclaimed by critics and audiences. It was nominated and awarded several awards. With the film itself, Crowe, Giamatti and Hollingsworth all receiving awards nods for their parts in this film, it's definitely up there as one of the better boxing films of all-time and truly an inspirational story.

3. The Harder They FallWritten by Budd Schulberg and Philip Yordan. Directed by Mark Robson. The Harder They Fall stars Humphrey Bogart in his last role before his death in 1957.

The Harder They Fall is the story of a out of work sportswriter Eddie Willis (Bogart) who is hired by a crooked promoter to publicize his new boxer. The new fighter is a large and impressive Argentinian, but ultimately talentless boxer. The plan is for the crooked promoter to build up his fighter through staged fights, then bet against him in a title match. Eddie then is left in a conundrum after starting to like the giant boxer, and battles with himself about whether to tell the Argentinian or not that his fights were fixed.

Bogie delivers a solid performance in his last film (for which he was already sick). The movie is a gritty film for its time and stands as a very nice examination of the mob-like influence in boxing.

2. RockyRocky is written by and stars Sylvester Stallone. While the first was directed by John G. Avildsen, the sequels were directed by Stallone himself.

For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to include all Rocky movies here together. While some may argue about which was their favorite, I still go with the first as being the best. Rocky is THE underdog story of all underdog stories. The original is the story of a small-time boxer who is given the chance to fight the champion and proves to the world what heart and talent he has.

Rocky is absolutely a classic. It is an inspiring and memorable movie. This movie is what put Stallone on the map. The movie received Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director, and a nomination for Best Actor. It is also listed in AFI's top 100 movies of all-time. Rocky is a definite must-see for any fans of the genre and arguably the best of its kind in the sports movie realm for many.

1. Raging BullWritten by Jake LaMotta and Joseph Carter. Directed by Martin Scorsese. Starring Robert De Niro. Also stars Cathy Moriarty and Joe Pesci.

Raging Bull is the emotional journey of self-destructive boxer Jake LaMotta, as the violence and temper that leads to his success in the ring, contributes to the downfall of his life outside the ring.

Many would argue that Rocky gets the first place spot. However, while I love Rocky, Raging Bull is just the better movie. This is arguably Scorsese's and De Niro's finest work. A true classic. Raging Bull is a gritty take on the sport and masculinity as well as a look at personal demons. This is the movie that put Pesci on the map and led to the famous pairing of De Niro and Pesci. It is an absolute must-see movie and one of the greatest films of all-time.

Top Movies Based on Books

Every time I hear of a new movie coming out based on a popular book, I instantly hear people complaining about a "lack of creativity in Hollywood". The same voices say "why not write something original". I think these screenwriters that adapt novels into movies are gifted at least!

Why?

Some of the greatest movies in the history of film were adapted from classic books. I can't imagine what the world of film would look like today if those books never existed in the firs place. Here are some of my favorite movies based on books:

THE NOTEBOOK

This movie focuses on an old man reading a story to an old woman in a nursing home. The story he reads follows two young lovers named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, who meet one evening at a carnival.

I can honestly say that I have watched it over 10 times and I have cried every single time .

The movie was based on "The Notebook" by Nicholas Sparks - a short novel, so you could read it in one day if you had time.

THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

After the murder of his wife, hotshot banker Andrew Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison, where the usual unpleasantness occurs. Over the years, he retains hope and eventually gains the respect of his fellow inmates, especially longtime convict "Red" Redding, a black marketeer, and becomes influential within the prison. Eventually, Andrew achieves his ends on his own terms.

I love this movie so much because the story is my favorite Stephen King short story ever. I felt they did a great job in staying true to the plot and storyline - it was almost as I had imagined it would be when reading. The movie was tremendous.

Top Ten Military Movies 2000-2009

Ready for a fight? Want to watch the best war movies that debuted in the past nine years? Here are the Real Military Network's pick for the best War films of the past nine years:

1. Gladiator (2000): For the quintessential story of a Roman soldier, the fictional General Maximus Decimus Meridius played by Russell Crowe, who journeys from a General who led legions in battle, to a slave, to a gladiator who defied an Emperor. The opening battle scene is one of the most dramatic ancient Roman war scenes ever filmed.

2. Taegukgi (2004): This Korean made film is the "Saving Private Ryan" of the Republic of Korea and worth your time. It vividly portrays the Korean war (1950-1953), with superbly crafted battle scenes, from perspective of both South and North Koreans.

3. 300 (2007): Highly stylized, but exhilarating, this film depicts the passion and fury of the famous stand of the Spartan 300 against the Persians at narrow pass at Thermopylae. Thermopylae is an important battles to the development of western culture and this is a must see war film to understand why the story of the 300 Spartans resonates to this day.

4. The Alamo (2004): As much as I respect John Wayne movies, this is, bar none, the best Alamo movie ever made. Most historians agree that "The Alamo (2004)" is the most accurate depiction the battle for the beleaguered Texan fortress ever filmed. It is also the most dramatic.

5. "Flags of Our Fathers" (2006) and Letters from Iwo Jima (2006): For an excellent depiction of the ferocity of the fighting for Iwo Jima (1944) and for showing both sides of the battle.

6. Kingdom of Heaven (2005), for superb battle scenes of the Crusades and the depiction of the Battle (Siege) of Jerusalem.

7. Enemy at the Gates (2001), depiction of the Battle of Stalingrad; for the depiction of the dramatic and monumental Battle for Stalingrad, 1942-1943.

8. The War (in Russian: ?????) (2002) , for its graphic depiction of modern combat in Chechnya during the second Chechen War 1999-2000. This film provides accurate insights to the corrupt Chechen militia, incompetent Russian Army, and the Russian's careless attitude concerning the plight of their soldiers who were captured by the Chechens. The film was made in Russia, but was produced in Russian and English.

9. Napoleon (2002) (TV mini-series): For an exciting view of Napoleonic Warfare. The first episode dramatically depicts young Napoleon's first Italian campaign and his heroic leadership at the Battle of Arcole. This mini-series also depicts the Battles of Eylau, Austerlitz, Waterloo and the retreat from Russia.

10. The Great Raid (2005), for telling a forgotten story of great courage by a group of US Army Rangers who rescue U.S. and Pilipino POWs from a Japanese prison camp during WWII.

Honorable Mentions:

1. The Lost Battalion (2001), for the only WWII war movie of substance created within the 2000-2009 time period.

2. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003), for brining to life the tactics of naval warfare during the Napoleonic Wars.

3. Saints and Soldiers (2003) for an excellent tale about the Battle of the Bulge during WWII, (December 1944)

4. Hannibal - Rome's Worst Nightmare (2006), this BBC TV depiction of the Second Punic War). The epic battle of Carthage and Rome is dramatically shown in this excellent film.

5. The Patriot (2000), depiction of the American Revolution and particularly for the depiction of the tactics used in the final battle, which is based on the Battle of Cowpens. In the Patriot, Mel Gibson plays the Benjamin Martin, a character loosely modeled after Francis Marion, the famous Southern militia leader known as the Swamp Fox.

Unstoppable 2010 - Top Movie Review

Unstoppable

Directed by Tony Scott, director of many Top Movies of Hollywood including his previous best on a train, The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Unstoppable is another roller coaster train saga, which got the PG 13 rating for some of its violent scenes and explicit dialogues.

Starring Denzel Washington (who has acted in many Top Movies) as Frank Barnes, a veteran engineer in a railway company about to retire and Chris Pine (star of many Top Movies) as Will Colson, a trainee attached with Frank, Unstoppable moves at a fast pace, despite having a weak storyline. Frank and Will are on a train with their duties etched out clearly. Frank is in control of the train and Will is to supervise the safety of the attached cars, where he defaults by overloading the train with extra cars.

On their journey they are encountered with a serious problem, which is not concerning their train, but another train that has been accidently let loose on the tracks by a couple of yardman. This unmanned train contains a very deadly chemical that can destroy a whole city if it spills over. Frank is apprised of the situation and the management of the rail company wants to use his long experience in stopping the unmanned train. The director has turned the movie - fit to be ranked as a Top Movie - into a visual treat which does not let the viewers think about the non-existent story.

Forgetting their own squabbles, Frank and Will get onto the job and very deftly handle the situation with expertise and cool minds. The unmanned train is on the same track as their train, which is carrying children on a trip and the chemical loaded monster has to be stopped before it wrecks havoc on an unaware city. In the pathway of the chemical loaded train is a sharp bend, which if taken at a high speed, will force the train to overshoot the track and plunge it straight into the city, exploding the chemical barrels and spraying the toxic chemical on innocent citizens.

Technical marvels that have been used by the director, with no CGI effects, are definitely a treat for the adrenaline and the excitement has been very effectively portrayed by both the actors, who are veterans of many action Top Movies. The action sequences have been excellently photographed and the sleek editing has made them blend into a continuity that makes for the thrilling finale of the film, when everything is sorted out and many lives are saved by the heroic deeds of the two heroes.

Batman Begins: Top Movie Review

Batman Begins

When Warner Bros., makers of some of top 10 movies of all times, decided to fast forward the dwindling fortunes of their Batman series, they choose Christopher Nolan, director of many top rated movies, who by now has established himself as a 'Thinking Director' with the success of Memento, one of his top movies. David S. Goyer, writer of many top rated movies, was chosen to writer this new Batman movie, but Nolan had a different idea. He wanted to present the story of origin of Batman. Nolan chose Christian Bale, who has some of the top 10 movies to his credit, to star as Batman and lined up an impressive array of co-stars.

Bruce Wayne's parents had been murdered by Joe Chill, a mugger, when he was a child. An orphaned Bruce is raised by Alfred Pennyworth, the family butler and Chill is imprisoned. After completing his studies, Bruce returns to Gotham city and comes to know from his childhood friend Rachel Dawes, now the District Attorney of the city, about the murder of Chill by a henchman of Carmine Falcone, the crime lord of Gotham. Bruce is shattered by the news as he wanted to kill Chill and in despair leaves Gotham city.

Years roll on and Bruce, whom circumstances have made a criminal, is imprisoned in Bhutan, where he is asked to become member of The League of Shadows, by Henry Ducard, a protØ£©gØ£© of Ra's al Ghul, leader of the League. Their intention is to train Bruce and use him in the destruction of Gotham. His refusal to tow their line angers Ra's and Bruce sets the temple to flames and finds Ra's buried under a heap of debris. Assuming that Ra's is dead, Bruce returns to Gotham with injured Ducard. An honest police Sgt. Jim Gordon and a former board member of Wayne Enterprises, Lucius Fox are taken into confidence by Bruce to end the evil reign of Falcone. In his underground workshop, Bruce prepares Tumbler, his armored car and the armored suit.

Batman catches an illegal shipment of drugs belonging to Falcone and hands it over to Rachel with evidence. Falcone is put in the Arkham Asylum where Dr. Jonathan Cane, an accomplice of Falcone is experimenting with a fear inducing toxin Hallucinogenic to gain control over Gotham. Cane sprays the toxin on Batman when he comes for investigation but is saved by an anti-toxin developed by Fox. Cane tricks Rachel to come to the asylum but a recovered Batman saves Rachel and she comes to know that Bruce in fact is Batman.

Ra's who has disguised himself as Ducard tells Bruce how he stole the Vaporizing Device from Wayne Corp and along with Cane has poisoned Gotham's water supply. Ra's men burn the mansion, release the prisoners from Arkham and infect the atmosphere with the toxin. The anti-toxin prepared by Fox saves everyone. Batman catches Ra's on the subway train and Ra's is killed in the train crash. Gotham city is saved and Batman is now the idol of the citizens. Bruce takes charge of his company but Rachel does not agree to live with Batman although she is in love with Bruce. This idea is often used in top rated movies.

Nolan's narrative and visualization is impeccable and keeps the viewers spellbound throughout the movie. The fear factor in the movie, soon to be a top movie, turns out to be the binding factor for the fans of Batman who are going to fill the movie halls and the coffers of Warner Bros. to the brim. Nolan has been retained by Warner for a sequel, so get ready for another roller coaster movie with Batman.

Top 5 Movies for 2007

Your heart is pumping, adrenaline flowing and you've got butterflies in the pit of your stomach. Although it's pouring, you came prepared... umbrella and all. The doors open and you rush in with all of your friends following behind. Since you saw the very first commercial, you've anxiously awaited this moment...

2007 was the most anticipated year for movie releases with such movies like: Live Free or Die Hard, Knocked up,

Fantastic Four, Bourne Ultimatum, National Treasure and more. The five I'm about to talk about were the biggest box office hits and although the majority of them were sequels, these movies had the biggest gross for an opening weekend since the release of "Titanic" back in 1998.

According to critiques, these five movies were the best of 2007 because not only did they bring in the big bucks, the target audience for each movie had such a broad age range, but were the best family movies of 2007 also. Believe it or not those aren't the only reasons these movies did so great at theatres, the market was and is still ripe. These fantastic five leave us wanting more; they leave us asking what's next?

Even though Transformers wasn't a sequel (Yet) the movie stood alone unbelievably well at the theatre, why you ask? Think about it, these alien robots have been around for over sixty years. What made Transformers so widely revered was the awesome debut of the new Chevy Camaro known as "Bumble Bee" in the movie, there's no question why the movie was such a hit; I personally can't wait for the second, which is said to be released around June of 2008.

Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End, had us all one the edge of our seats throughout the entire movie, but especially at the end when Orlando Bloom showed some skin. Young girls couldn't take their eyes of him, but of course he's not the only hunk young girls are keeping their eyes on; even my four year old says she's going to marry this next big hero.

You guessed it, Peter Parker or Spiderman as we all know and love him. With three new villains and shocking knock down drag out at the end, Spiderman fans definitely didn't leave theatres mopping. Even the villains are exciting and as you'll see in the movie, Peter finally gets the truth about what happened to dear old Uncle Ben. But Mary Jane is left playing the jealous girlfriend as Spidey shares "Their" kiss.

As if those movies didn't already have fans in high hopes, the friendly ogre and company made going to see "Shrek the Third" a wonderful family outing. Kids and adults watched as Shrek overcame his fear of becoming a daddy and his short lived reign as king unfold with plenty of laughter and excitement. On Shrek's journey to find a replacement king for Far Far Away, we all watched in awe as the new character, Arthur embarked upon a magical and thrilling ride to outsmart Prince Charming.

You didn't think I was done yet, did you? No there's one last movie that made big news in headlines and at the box office. Recently with the news of one said headmaster being gay and the release of the seventh and last book in the series, Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix, made a loud magical ride into theatres this summer. Oh and what a ride it was as new characters and creatures were introduced. But that's not all, not even close. Harry is nearly expelled from Hogwarts for using magic outside of Hogwarts and Dumbledore becomes a fugitive, while Harry's left teaching students secretly how to defend themselves against the Dark Lord. The ending though, that's the high point of the movie as Harry learns of a prophecy. I only wonder what that mom who was trying so fervently to get the Harry Potter books removed from school libraries has to say now.

Looking to the future, more sequels are in the line to stampede into theatres, but as we wait for those, remember the ride isn't over just yet. Faithful fans are still trying to collect the DVD's to add to the sets of these precious movies and just when you think the movie craze is over, don't fool yourself... it's just beginning.

Top Family Friendly Movies of 2009

Here are the all around BEST family friendly movies of 2009. These are movies that you can't go wrong with for both kids and adults together. These are great movies you can enjoy over and over again with your kids. If you missed one, be sure to keep an eye out for when it is released on DVD and snatch it up quick. Each one of these family friendly movies for 2009 will be worthy additions to your family movie collection.

The Princess and the Frog

The folks at Disney have come up with another classic here with their first and long over due animated story featuring an African American heroine. You will feel like you are watching a story line similar to Little Mermaid at times, but the characters are believable and ones you will cheer for. The best audience for this movie is girls at middle school age and younger.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

A bit corny at times, okay a lot corny, but kids loved this movie. It is based on the children's book by the same name and succeeds at all levels. This animated screen version is funny and moves at a fast pace. It is based on the unlikely event of food coming down as rain. The visual effects are great as well.

Hannah Montana: The Movie

What child doesn't know about the hit Disney TV show Hannah Montana? Well in this full length feature film all the characters are brought to the big screen. It is a heart warming story of a young girl (played by Miley Cyrus) coming of age and searching for herself. With lots of horses, and a country setting this musical family comedy is filled with family values and is enjoyable for kids of all ages and their parents.

G-Force

This is a creative 3-D animated comedy adventure brought to us by Disney. It is about a group of specially trained guinea pigs that are used by the government for top secret espionage. The characters are fluffy and engaging as they go about using all their latest spy gear and gadgets. The movie is clever, fun for all ages and finishes with a great message.

Ice Age: Dawn of The Dinosaurs

This is actually the third installment of the Ice Age movies with a new, fun and lovable character being introduced. If your kids saw the earlier Ice Age Movies this will be enjoyed as well. The animation is great and who doesn't love a movie with dinosaurs.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Kids sure seem to love it when museum characters come to life after the doors are closed. In this sequel we are taken to the Washington DC Smithsonian museum where once again the museum exhibits come to life. Silly, witty and with charming characters, this movie is highly fun for kids of all ages.

Up

This very successful animated adventure film is my favorite for the whole year. It teams up Disney and Pixar and quite possibly will become Pixar's best film to date. The characters are entertaining, the story is well written, and the animation and graphics are superb. It is filled with funny lines that have both kids and adults enjoying and laughing together. Even though it is just an animated film, it will have you re-evaluating your life at the end.

Top French Movies

French movies have over the years, enthralled people all over the world. Just like every top genre of movies, French movies have over time developed its unique style, brought to the fore by the renowned artists and the directors. The testimony to the fact is that many movies of the yesteryears are still watched with as much interest and appreciation as was when they were released.

The French films, just like any other great movies of all times, have successfully used elements like drama, passion, romance, comedy, suspense, thriller and action that have wowed the audience. But no less successful have been the movies with a theme, for example, a social theme.

Let us discuss some French movies that have been immensely successful over the years.

A heart in the winter: This movie is all about a love triangle that stretches through the movie and leaves the audience enthralled. This movie is about two friends who are into the business of violins-while one is into repairing violins, the other looks after the business. While one falls for a beautiful violinist, the violinist is in love with the other.

Beauty and the Beast: This movie is about a man who sets out for his home one night and is captured by a half man and a half beast. The half beast lets the man go on condition that he will send one of his daughters to the beast. The man sends his beautiful daughter to the beast when the girl realizes that the beast has the heart of a human within. The movie is known for its wonderful story and its special effects which were not yet developed in those years.

Belle de Jour: This is a French cinema which is about a lady who loves her doctor husband but is not quite reconciled to the idea of having sex with him. In her quest for sex, she falls into bad company. This movie was released in 1967 and is a wonderful creation.

Birds of a Feather: This movie is about two gay men who run a nightclub in France. One of the men's sons decides to marry a girl who is the daughter of a Senator. The Senator belongs to the Moral majority party. The two men realize that the Senator might not like the idea of two gay men. This is a wonderful story that is sympathetic to the cause of the gays while at the same time is politically incorrect.

These movies have been able to have a captive audience down the decades mainly because of a superb storyline and skillful acting. This is all the more creditable in the absence of world class technology.

Top Movie Download Sites

The concept of downloading movies is not a new one. Fact is, the technology to stream or download movies has only become viable in the last year or so with many households adopting broadband or cable connection.

As a result, many movie download sites are popping out all over the internet. Here are some of the top movie download sites currently available that are legitimate.

1) Movielink

Movielink is a joint project of MGM studios, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros and Universal Studios. That's a lot of heavyweight companies supporting this site.

Currently, the movies are on a pay per view rental basis. That's means you pay anywhere from 99 cents to $4.99 to watch each movie. It can last for 30 days and it has a pretty wide selection of current hollywood movies. Currently, it is only available in the US.

2) CinemaNow

CinemaNow is another top movie download site. They have a huge selection of movies around 1,200 but most of it aren't new hollywood movies. You can either rent or buy a movie. If you choose to rent, it's available for 24 hours and if you buy, it's available indefinitely in your cinemanow's digital library. You can even download and burn to dvd for some movies.

I recommend the subscription plan which is $29.95 per month if you watch a lot of movies since it is more worth while.

3) Vongo

Vongo is a relatively new movie download site. They offer a subscription plan of $9.99 per month where you can download and watch unlimited movies. There are premium pay per view movies which cost an additional charge and available for 24 hours upon payment. It's currently only available in the US.

There are also many other top movie download sites available but you need to be careful as not all are legitimate and it is illegal to download pirated or bootleg movies.

Regardless of which top movie download site you choose, you need to have a fast broadband connection to be able to watch the movies smoothly. A large capacity hard disk is recommended if you plan to download the movies.

2010 Top Best Summer Movies

We've found this to be an interesting summer for movies. Not earth shattering by any means, but not a total dud either. Toy Story 3 and Inception were the highlights for us, and I think they were for most people. Toy Story 3 has made over 400 billion dollars worldwide with Inception closing in at near 300 billion. We won't forget Avatar either, but that's in it's own class as is its maker James Cameron.

I'm sure there'll be some movies that we leave out that you all will be yelling bloody murder about so just comment away since we always appreciate dissent, it's a good thing over apathy. There have been some quiet contenders that we mentioned in our earlier review on here that most people may have heard about or not at all. One that was pretty cool on the small side was The Kids Are All Right about two lesbian mothers (Julianne Moore and Annette Benning) who wind up discovering who the sperm donor is for their child (Mark Ruffalo playing a wonderful lowkey role). What we loved about this one was it didn't focus on a big gay marriage debate; it just was a film about a relationship with its ups and down like any other. It's well worth checking out and the cast really bring out the best in this gem of a film

We loved The Expendibles just for the kickass shoot em up style, and the fact that Sylvestor Stallone was able to bring together all our big action stars of the past and present (basically just Jason Statham) was the perfect guilty pleasure. Plus, it showed us once again that Sylvestor Stallone is alive and kicking and knows what we want in our action films. We've already weighed in on Eli Roth's The Last Exorcism and gave it another shot just to make sure we weren't just being mean to Eli Roth.

Sadly, the 3D technology is already getting raped by Hollywood with films like Clash Of the Titans and Airbender so hopefully audiences will speak up by not going to these films to make Hollywood once again realize that you just can't throw anything out there expecting the ticket buying public to rush out to them in droves. Especially in this economy no matter what the news channels keep trying to tell us that things are looking up.

Top 10 Old Movies

Can the expression "oldie but goodie" apply to movies? It's true that movies made decades ago didn't have the same sky-high budgets or special effects as today's films. But remember that the essence of a quality movie is in its story, and good storytelling never goes out of style. Here's a list of the top movies that were released prior to 1960 ( listed in no particular order):

Though set during Christmas, you can enjoy this film during any day of the year. The film was directed and produced by Frank Capra, and stars James Steward. Clarence shows George how he has affected other people, as well as his community.

6. All about Eve (1950)

It's difficult for anyone to ignore a film that was nominated for 14 Academy Awards (it eventually won six). The movie is based on a short story. "All about Eve" stars Bette Davis. It chronicles one Broadway star's rise to stardom, resulting in her receiving a prestigious award.

7. Singin' in the Rain (1952)

This comedy-musical film stared Gene Kelley (who was also the co-director). It's has unquestionably become one of the most popular and critically-acclaimed musicals of all time. The film is about films, and chronicles Hollywood's transition from silent films, to "talkies."

8. Rear Window (1954)

Alfred Hitchcock directed this suspense film. The story features Jimmy Steward, who plays a photographer. While recovering from a broken leg, the photographer observes signs that one of his neighbors may have murdered his wife. Many movie critics argue that this was Hitchcock's best film.

9. The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957)

Set during World War II, the film is based on the novel of the same name. The story is based on the experiences of British prisoners of war, in a Japanese prison camp. All of the prisoners are required to participate in the construction of a bride over the River Kwai. The film won seven Academy Awards, including the one for Best Picture.

10. Some Like It Hot (1959)

This comedy film stars Marilyn Monroe in one of her most famous roles. The movie is about a pair of struggling musicians who witness a massacre in 1929. They flee Chicago, in order to save their lives. The men decide to disguise themselves as females, so they can play in an all-female musical band. The American Film Institute listed this film as the greatest American comedy film ever.

So there you have it! These are some of the top films that have withstood the test of time. They prove that quality filmmaking produces quality films that can last for eons.

The Top 5 War Movies Of All Time

Over the past few decades, a number of amazing war movies have hit the theaters. Although there are many war movies that have done an excellent job of portraying the conflict and the reality of the situation at hand, there are five that rank at the top of the list.

Platoon

Released in 1986 and directed by Oliver Stone, Platoon is still considered by many to be the best war movie ever made. Starring Charlie Sheen and the then-little-known actor Johnny Depp, Platoon reached a depth of realism that many could not fully understand unless they had actually been in the military or experienced the Vietnam War the movie depicted.

Apocalypse Now

Also taking place during the Vietnam War, Apocalypse Now presents a unique and magnificent story with finely crafted characters. Released in 1979 and directed by Francis Ford Coppolla, the film is not only a great war story but is also considered by many to represent the dark side of the human psyche. Starring Martin Sheen, Harrison Ford, Marlon Brando, and Robert Duvall, the movie certainly enjoys a cast that is to be admired.

Saving Private Ryan

Taking place during WWII, Saving Private Ryan presents a unique story during one of the country's most trying times. The special effects and graphic ealism of the movie are truly amazing. In addition, it offers an excellent cast of actors, including Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, and even Vin Diesel. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the film achieved critical acclaim by receiving Academy Awards for Best Sound, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Director. It was also nominated for six other Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

We Were Soldiers

Based on a novel written by a Lieutenant General and a reporter that were at the Battle of Ia Drang in Vietnam, We Were Soldiers takes a personal look into the lives of real soldiers and events that took place at the time. Directed by Randall Wallace and starring Mel Gibson, it is one of only a few war movies to depict the feelings, actions, and thoughts of soldiers on both sides of the war.

Glory

Glory, which takes place during the American Civil War, stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington, and Morgan Freeman. The movie, which was released in 1989, tells the riveting and heart wrenching story of coming of age of African American soldiers as they are placed on the battlefield for the first time.

Each of these movies stirs the emotions and puts the viewer on the battlefield, showing the emotional, mental, and physical toll the soldiers undergo during wartime and when on the battlefield. They also delve into the politics behind these wars, including depicting the roles of commanders and politicians that are no where near the actual battlefield.
