The Top Movies Using 3D Technology

For decades we have seen experiments in 3D technology which to be honest have never lived up to the hype. Now, they finally seem to have cracked it. Now the only question we need to ask is how far can this go? As well as movies, they are now using this technology to embellish major sports events and even live concerts, to give you the impression that you are actually there.

The recent phenomenal success of Avatar can't have escaped anyone's notice. Even if you haven't seen it; you can't have failed to see the trailers and been impressed by the technology. This is going to improve even further and we can only imagine what we will be seeing in the future.

I'm going to quickly tell you which 3 movies made in 3D are the best in my opinion. Have a look at them and see if you agree with me. If you have already seen them you will know what I'm talking about.

Few of us were privileged enough to see U2 in concert, but we got the next best thing by being able to see the entire concert in 3D. This gave cinema goers the impression of actually being at that remarkable gig. It was the first time that technology had been used this way, and it certainly won't be the last.

The technology that went into making this so much more that just a tape of a concert is phenomenal. You know you are sitting in a movie theater but you are transported to that concert and you stay there until Bono leaves the stage. These are definitely going to be made more frequently and their box office potential is mind blowing.

The best way to appreciate a 3D movie from a few years ago was to compare it with an ordinary version of the same thing; and this is where the makers of Beowulf were very clever. The versions released in 2007 were one of each, and the ordinary one was pretty ordinary.

The 3D version, however, was a visual masterpiece. It was also critically acclaimed, which was previously unheard of for a 3D movie. This to me really raised the bar for 3D film makers, and the technology has come in leaps and bounds since then.

"And the winner of the 2010 Academy award for best picture is..." Avatar, as far as I'm concerned. Don't get me started on those who keep saying it's a cartoon; this is a 3D technological triumph, which deserves all its plaudits and should provide James Cameron with yet another few Oscars for his mantelpiece.

Top 10 Best Action & Adventure Movies

Action and adventure movies are perhaps the most popular to be watched on the big screen. So what is it exactly that makes a great action adventure movie? To a large extent the genre is defined (and redefined) by the movies themselves - the ones that are remembered the longest and most highly esteemed by movie-goers.

My selection below includes movies as varied as pirate adventure and science fiction yet they all fall into the action adventure genre, and are in my opinion, some of the best movies ever made. Essential ingredients include a great story or at least one that can move along at a good pace. Add to this a hero we can identify with. If our hero is slightly disadvantaged in some way, by a character flaw or overwhelming odds, then even better.

For an action adventure movie to be truly memorable we have to share our hero's experience as they face dangers and circumstances we never will (and probably wouldn't want to). In reverse order here are my top ten...

10. The Long Kiss Goodnight

Samantha Caine, a happily married suburban Mom can't remember anything before the birth of her daughter eight years ago. One night during a car accident she receives a blow to the head and her past slowly begins to come back to her. But it's a race against time when a former enemy sees her on television and breaks out of jail to take revenge for stabbing him in the eye. This is a terrific action adventure movie, which never quite got the credit it deserved.

9. The Fugitive

Respected surgeon Dr. Richard Kimble is falsely accused and convicted of the brutal murder of his wife. A failed escape by other prisoners gives Kimble an opportunity to escape. Pursued by the relentless US Marshal, Samuel Gerard, Kimble's only hope is to find those responsible for the murder of his wife. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones make this one fantastic manhunt movie.

8. Aliens

Discovered half a century later drifting through space in an escape shuttle - Warrant Officer Ellen Ripley is the lone survivor of the mining ship Nostromo. With no witnesses and no one to believe her story she is stripped of her flight officer's license. She finds out that since her ordeal a human colony has been founded on the planet were the alien was first encountered and that all contact has been lost. Recruited as advisor she joins a team of marines to return to the planet to face what turns into a living nightmare. Where Alien was scary because you hardly saw it, Aliens is scary because they are everywhere.

7. Star Wars: A New Hope

I saw Star Wars at the age of 10, after a long wait with my Mom outside the cinema. Even then I new I had seen something important - I just didn't realize then that it was one of the greatest action and adventure movies of all time.

The Flash Gordon style text rolls back into the darkness of space, a gigantic Imperial space ship screeches past nearly filling the entire movie screen. Its prey... a hopelessly out-gunned spaceship - on board... Princess Leia Organa (a member of the Imperial Senate) and two droids: R2-D2 and C3PO. Inside the R2-D2 droid are copies of the plans to the Death Star, a weapon of unspeakable power. Between these three and a handful of others the fate of the free universe hangs.

6. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

This movie managed to restore the pirate adventure to main stream cinema long after it had gone out of vogue but only just! Imagine for a moment the same film without Johny Depp and Geoffrey Rush - not quite the same is it?

Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner are brought together in an unlikely partnership and must face a band of cursed pirates led by the treacherous Captain Barbossa. Both have different goals: - for Will it is to rescue the love of his life Elizabeth Swann and for Jack to recover the Black Pearl.

5. Raiders of the Lost Ark

After outrunning a massive boulder we see our hero surviving a snake pit, escaping elaborate booby traps, and taking on evil Nazis in pursuit of the Ark of the Covenant. Against all odds Indiana Jones will stop at nothing to attain the prize. With more action than you could crack a bullwhip at, this film, with the help of Harrison Ford, redefined what an action adventure movie could be.

4. Terminator II: Judgment Day

Arnold IS back! Not to terminate Sarah Connor but to protect her son. In the sequel to The Terminator, two robots from the future are sent back in time - one to kill John Connor (the future leader of the human resistance against the machines) the other to protect him. Our now "nice guy" Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) well and truly meets his match in the form of the T-1000, an advanced prototype liquid metal terminator which can imitate anything of similar size that it comes into physical contact with. Some shaky stop-frame animation in the first film is replaced with some cutting edge special effects in this one.

3. The Matrix

This is the movie that raised the bar in cinema in terms of fight scenes and special effects. The makers of The Matrix invented completely new ways to use the camera (cameras even) creating something called "bullet time" which revolutionized the action sequence.

Mild mannered programmer by day - hacker by night, Thomas Anderson has always questioned his reality. His search for a legendary hacker named Morpheus attracts sinister attention from "government" agents. Thomas Anderson is about to have his question answered and find out the true nature of The Matrix.

2. Blade

Born to a mother dying from a vampire attack, Blade is the "day walker" - man with all the strengths of a vampire but none of their weaknesses. Blades' mission is to hunt down the vampire as revenge for the death of his mother. This movie is a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end with some of the most spectacular sword-fighting scenes to be seen on the big screen.

1. The Bourne Identity

Found floating, half dead in the sea by the crew of an Italian fishing boat, Jason Bourne has nothing, not even his memory. The only clue to his identity is the Swiss bank account number embedded in his hip. In Zurich the discovery of passports, cash and a handgun in a safe-deposit box set alarm bells ringing, not only for Jason, but for those that want him dead.

Top 10 Scariest Movies Ever - 10 Horror Films You Don't Want to Miss!

Earlier today my girlfriend and some friends decided to investigate on what were the top 10 scariest movies ever to watch on Halloween none stop. Well, what better place than the internet to do the research on horror films. We went to several forums, asked some experts, we even went to Ask500 and did a couple of polls. I have only seen 4 of these movies personally, and yes they will scare the living hell out of you. But we are saving the good stuff for Halloween, you should join us! Here are our conclusions:

While personally, me and my friends have only seen 4 of these top 10 scariest movies ever (The Sixth Sense, The Vanishing, Poltergeist and The Exorcist), we can truly say that these movies are not to be played around with, you definitely have to be over 18 and even then you might be going to a therapist after October's end. Take into account that we have asked over 1,000 people for these results, don't take them lightly.

One word of warning though, you actually have to watch the films I mentioned from those years. There are tens of hundreds of horrible remakes (and not in the scary way) especially the Hollywood commercial remakes, those are really terrifying to watch. If you are serious about watching some good and spooky stuff, you need to watch the old versions.

Top 10 Horror Movies for Halloween 2010

Here we go fancy dress fans, to start getting you into the 'spirit' of Halloween, here's a top 10 list of horror movies... If you were a teenager in the 70s or 80s, you are going to remember them all!!

1. The Exorcist

This 1973 horror film deals with the demonic possession of a young girl and her mother's desperate plea to get her daughter back through the ancient exorcism rite to rid the devil, which is performed by two priests.

The most profitable horror film of all time, with 10 academy award nominations, it was one of a cycle of demonic child movies produced in the 60s and 70s. The Best Bit? The 12 year old girl shows very strange and unnatural powers including levitation, huge strength along with a strange male demonic voice spewing out obscenities. Loved the bit when her head rotates and projective vomits vile green sludge...

2. Evil Dead

A horror film many of you will remember from the 80s, made famous with its storyline of the five college students vacationing in an isolated cabin in a remote wooded area who find an audiotape that releases evil spirits. Evil Dead made headlines because of its extremely controversial and graphic terror, violence, and gore!

For its time, it was pretty radical. Stephen King called it 'the most ferociously original horror movie of the year'! Best Bits? Well... it's just a continuous pummelling of the audience with one insanely horrific shock effect after the other.

3. Nightmare on Elm Street

Nancy is having horrible nightmares. She discovers so too are her highschool chums, but they are being slaughtered in their sleep by the same hideous character of their shared dreams. Nancy, ignored by the Police has to confront the killer in his shadowy lair...

This movie was made by the master of the horror genre, legend, Wes Craven. Johnny Depp makes an appearance in his first starring role, and Nightmare on Elm Street gives birth to one of the most notorious and infamous undead villains in film history; Freddy Krueger.

Most memorable scary bit... the children singing... "One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, eight, better stay awake. Nine, ten, never sleep again..."

4. Scream

Another of Wes Craven's blockbusters, the movie scream was hugely popular in the 90's for its resurrection of the teen slasher movie genre. The plot was apparently inspired by the Halloween movie series and Gainseville Ripper murders of 1990.

The plot of `Scream' is pretty simple: Halloween costumed knife-wielding psychopathic serial killer is busy stalking high school students and brutally killing them off one by one. The killer's inordinately obsessed with one of the girls, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), who gets involved in the quest to unmask the insane killer Funny Bit? The wassuuuup phone conversation between the killer and three lads.

5. Carrie

The 1976 supernatural horror movie shocked millions of viewers during the 70s, based on the novel 'Carrie' by Stephen King. Carrie is the story of a socially outcast teenage girl who discovers she possesses psionic powers which are brought to life when she is angered. After humiliation by her peers, teachers and abusive mother, Carrie turns her supernatural powers on them to devastating tragedy.

Best Bits: The moment the bucket of pig's blood is tipped over Carrie, who is on stage, who has just been named prom queen... but this is eclipsed by the final moment when the only survivor of the prom, dreams of visiting the plot where Carrie's house once stood. As she places flowers on the ground, a bloody hand reaches out, grabbing Sue wrist...*shiver*

6. An American Werewolf in London

The 1981 horror-comedy film about two young American men on a backpacking holiday round England, where they eventually find themselves deep into the moors one night and they are attacked by a werewolf. Jack dies and David ends up in a London hospital and is visited in his dreams by the ghostly apparition of his friend who re-appears to tell him that he is now a werewolf and will transform at the next moon. Sure enough he does and goes on a murderous killing spree and awakens to find himself back to normal, but caged at the London zoo.

Best bits - the ever decaying and zombie like corpse Jack returning telling David to kill himself.

7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

This horror film from 1974 introduced the spine chilling character of Leatherface and was originally presented as a true story involving the ambush and murdered of a group of friends by cannibals on a road trip across rural Texas.

The film however is completely fictional, but no less horrifying. This terrifying movie has gained a reputation as one of the most influential horror films in cinematic history, with its portrayal of the killer as a large, hulking, faceless figure whose weapon of choice is a power tool to unleash inexplicable horror on its victims... brrrrr, watch this one during daylight hours with friends...

8. The Shining

Made in 1980, The Shining based on Stephen King's novel and directed by Stanley Kubrick, is a psychological horror that has become a classic of the horror genre and it has been ranked as one of the best horror films of all time! It's intensely eerie and powerfully menacing. A writer, his wife and young son head off to care-take an isolated hotel in its off season. The son who is psychic, can see ghosts and predict things from the future or past. Following a ferocious winter storm, the family are barricaded in the hotel and the father becomes influenced by the supernatural presence in the haunted hotel, he descends into insanity and ends trying to kill wife and son.

Memorable Bits; Jack Nicholson's descent into madness and when he turns against his family... 'Wendy? Darling? Light of my life, I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in'

9. The Amityville Horror

This 1979 horror film gained huge popularity with its claim to be based on a true story of the Lutz family and the paranormal disturbances they experienced at 112 Ocean Avenue, a large Dutch colonial house in Amityville. 13 months before the family moved in, Ronald DeFeo, Jr shot and killed 6 members of his family. After only 28 days, the Lutz's flee the house, having been terrorized by a supernatural presence.

Some of their experiences included; - George waking at 3:15 every morning to inspect the boathouse (the time that Defeo murdered his family) - Kathy having vivid nightmares about the murders and a feeling of being embraced in a loving manner by an unseen person. - The red room, a room painted in blood that did show up on the houses blueprints. - The image of a demon in the fireplace, which his head half blown off - Strange smells of excrement and perfume in random rooms of the house. - Missy's imaginary friend, a demonic pig-like creature with glowing red eyes. - Slamming doors and German marching bands were heard by George. - Kathy levitating off the bed and receiving red welts on her chest. - Green slime oozing from the walls and plagues of flies - George received bite marks from a four foot high ornamental china lion.

A terrific horror film and the book is even better... don't be scared if you start waking at 3:15am...

10. Night of the living Dead

This 1968 black and white movie is the first and original zombie movie that sets the bar for all other zombie laden gore-fests. It follows the story of 7 folks who are trapped in a rural farmhouse in Pennsylvania. It's a long night of survival as the house is being attacked by mysterious ghouls, the living dead, otherwise known as zombies who swarm around the house in search of living flesh.

The story focuses on the characters weaknesses, their cowardice, their greed and stupidity and makes the drama inside the house as palatable as the danger from outside. The undead zombies are lumbering beasts, they appear unstoppable and relentless in the quest to feast on the living. Most horrifying Bit? A knife-wielding little zombie girl... zombie kids? That will keep you awake all night long.

Watching movies is one of the easiest family activities you can do. You can gather the whole family and sit in front of your television and watch a movie to enjoy time together without having to leave the house and spend a lot of money. My Favorite Top 10 Comedy Movies

I have always been a movie fanatic for as far back as I can remember and although I have enjoyed all genres, I especially gravitated to comedy movies for the most part. My father and I would sit watching comedy movies and laugh until it hurt and on Fridays in the summer, it was always a given that my parents would take my sister and I to the Drive-In Theater. (Does anyone remember them?) If it was a comedy, that was a double plus for us. So, for me to say that I love comedy movies would be a vast understatement and for me to make a Favorite Top 10 list is literally next to impossible. In fact, making a Top 20 would be hard enough as it is, but I am going to try anyway. I will cover groups of movies and some solo movies and then try to accomplish my feat for the evening. And although this will be my most difficult task to date, I will most definitely enjoy the memories that these movies provide to me and hopefully for you also.

The In-Laws with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin is so funny and enjoyable. The way that Falk's character slowly gets Arkin's character, Sheldon, involved with all of his CIA shenanigans is priceless. A definite must see for those who have never heard of this gem. "Serpentine Sheldon, serpentine!"

Let It Ride is one of the most unique comedies I have ever seen, in that, every character is nuts. I mean, in every comedy you have some normal people and then the funny ones. But this movie has no normal people. It takes place at the race track and everyone is a funny character. Richard Dreyfuss is great as Trotter, as he is with every character he portrays. What About Bob?, Moon Over Parador & The Goodbye Girl, to name a few, are terrific Dreyfuss movies.

Since I already mentioned it, What About Bob? is a classic with Dreyfuss and one of my favorites, Bill Murray. I love watching Murray drive Dreyfuss crazy ever so slowly during the course of the movie. 'Baby Steps'. And when you speak of Bill Murray, you have to acknowledge Stripes, Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, Scrooged and of course, Caddyshack. What a terrific cast Caddyshack had. It was Harold Ramis' first attempt at directing and he did a fantastic job in making what is now a Golf Country Club classic that had so many memorable lines delivered by the irrepressible Rodney Dangerfield. The war between him and Ted Knight was hysterical. "Hey, who stepped on a duck?"

The Producers is a Mel Brooks masterpiece and a screenplay Oscar winner. Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder are so superb in those roles. The idea was to sell much more than 100% of a Broadway play to investors and make sure it is a flop by acquiring the worst script, 'Springtime For Hitler', the worst actors, director, music and anything else to assure a quick closing. This way they could keep the money without paying the investors back. But of course the play is a hit and there is no possible way they can pay everyone back, since they sold about 5000%. So they end up in jail and do they learn their lesson? Nope! They produce 'Prisoners In Love' and sell the warden 200%. While on the subject of Mel Brooks, how can I not list Young Frankenstein, High Anxiety, History Of The World Part 1 and another favorite, Blazing Saddles. The absolute Best Comedy Western of all time, period. Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman, Mel Brooks, Slim Pickens and of course, Mongo (Alex Karas). What a blast!

The Pink Panther movies are some of the best works of the great Peter Sellers. Inspector Clouseau had to be one of the funniest bumbling fools to ever grace the silver screen. A Shot In The Dark, The Pink Panther Strikes Again and Revenge Of The Pink Panther were such great vehicles for Sellers. And on the topic of Peter Sellers, how about Being There, The Mouse That Roared and Dr. Strangelove, or: How I Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb. Peter Sellers plays 3 roles in this movie and makes them all so funny and memorable, a tribute to his comedic acting genius.

A Day At The Races with the Marx Brothers would make my Top 5 of all time no matter how long a list I had. I loved the Marx Brothers and this movie is one of my absolute favorites. They were so off the wall and this movie had so many incredible funny scenes. Then you have A Night At The Opera, Monkey Business, Duck Soup and Horse Feathers.

Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein was so great to watch as a kid. Here were the monsters of the times that used to scare us, Frankenstein, Dracula and The Wolfman, and now here they were in a comedy with one of the best Comedy Teams of all time. What a treat! That whole scene with Costello in the hotel room and Lon Chaney,Jr has already changed into the Wolfman. Lou didn't know it and is so close to getting killed. A great comedy effect of anticipation.

Sleeper is a great Woody Allen movie. The premise was he was revived 200 years after being frozen cryogenically. The results were as funny as you would expect from an early Woody Allen movie. Let me also give tribute to Bananas, Annie Hall, What's New Pussycat?, Play It Again Sam, Take The Money And Run and Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Sex (But Were Afraid To Ask).

Monty Python And The Holy Grail is a true classic with so many funny and out of the ordinary scenes. I especially loved the scene with the sword fight at the bridge and the loser has his limbs sliced off one by one and yet keeps insisting that he is winning the battle. Even when he is just a torso on the ground he states, "So we'll call it draw then?" Let's also throw in Monty Python's Life Of Brian and Monty Python's Meaning Of Life. On the side, I must mention that if you ever have the time to see a play on Broadway, then by all means go see Spamalot. I laughed the whole entire play and you don't even have to be a Monty Python fan to laugh your fool head off, as I did.

It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World was the first comedy movie of it's kind. It was the first movie with an all star cast like that. Anyone who was anybody in comedy at that time wanted to be in that movie, even if it was just a small cameo appearance. If you weren't in that movie, you weren't on the comedy map, so to speak. One of the great comedy premises for a movie and an absolute amazing cast of actors, headed by Spencer Tracy. A must see for any generation.

The Nutty Professor and The Errand Boy are terrific comedy performances by Jerry Lewis. I know the word genius is used a lot but Mr. Lewis certainly proves that he is in those two classics. The Nutty Professor remake with Eddie Murphy was fantastic too. A virtual tour de force comedy performance by him with all of his family characters. Plus, I must mention two movies with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis together to complete his work: The Stooge and The Caddy. "Whose you're little whosie? Whose you're turtle dove?"

Now I would like to write about some comedy movies of more recent times. There's Something About Mary is hysterical with so many unique scenes that have never been done before, and in comedy that is extremely hard to do. The scene with Matt Dillon and the dog is one of my most favorite scenes of all time. I literally fell out of my chair laughing at that one. He accidentally kills the dog and tries to resuscitate him by giving him an electric jolt with the live wire from a nearby table lamp. Ben Stiller has really made a name for himself in the business, which makes sense knowing that his parents are Jerry Stiller and Ann Meara. And when talking about Ben you must mention Meet The Parents, Meet The Fockers and Night At The Museum.

Analyze That with Billy Crystal and Robert DeNiro was great and though it was a sequel to Analyze This, I loved it even more. The scene when DeNiro comes down to the Shiva with his robe open and nothing on underneath was hysterical. "Hey, who do you have to f*#k around here to get some bacon? Not you I hope." Mr. DeNiro, as everyone knows, is a tremendous serious actor, but he delivers comedy equally as well, as he did in Midnight Run with Charles Grodin. They were supposed to make a sequel for that but never did. I wish they had. Other Billy Crystal movies I have loved are City Slickers 1 & 2, Mr. Saturday Night and When Harry Met Sally.

Liar, Liar with Jim Carrey is terrific. But of course, I love Carrey in everything. He is so animated, rubbery faced and one of my favorite comedic actors. I love the outtakes at the end of the movie also. They really show his improvisational abilities well. Then there is Bruce Almighty, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Me, Myself & Irene.

My Cousin Vinny is a well written and wonderfully acted comedy movie with Joe Pesci, Fred Gwynne and Marisa Tomei. In fact, Miss Tomei won an Oscar for her role. The chemistry between the three of them on screen was terrific, as were all of the courtroom scenes. In the words of the judge, "What's a yute?"

Something's Gotta Give was very funny with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. What a great script. I think it should have won an Oscar for Best Screenplay. Of course, you can never go wrong with Jack in the movie. He has such a great face. Even in the horror flick, The Shining, he makes me laugh. The Witches Of Eastwick, Terms Of Endearment, As Good As It Gets, Batman and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and so many more are such an amazing body of work.

Stir Crazy with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor is absolutely hysterical and their chemistry together was wonderful to watch. They did a few more movies together and they delivered some belly laughs also. Another You, Silver Streak and See No Evil, Hear No Evil.

Top 10 Black And White Movies

Life, just like the movies I have seen, is in full color. When I hear about a black and white movie, it seems boring and not appealing but in fact, some of the black and white movies were, and still are some of the classics of all time.

At first, when movies started, the movement in the movies was very exciting. When color appeared it seemed like black and white was out. No one ever expected that any director would ever choose black and white movies where in fact directors have used the black and white to create a period in time that color could never represent.

In spite of the younger generation's resistance to black and white movies, there has been some brave and successful attempts to film in black and white. The opposition to black and white claims that black and white movies are not a good representation of life, which is full of colour. The supporters claim that in times where computers can create a visual effect of anything possible, there is no such thing as real color.

Film makers found magic in back and white color and used it brilliantly in an artistic way to present old times.

You w ill be surprised to know that some of the top movies, in terms of worldwide box office income and not including earnings from videos and DVDs, are in black and white.

It is important to note that some of the movies are not old, but were deliberately chosen to be filmed in black and white. The newest being "Good Night and Good Luck".

The best years of our lives also won the Oscar for the best movie and Alfred Hitchcock proved in his movie "Psycho" that quality can be delivered even if it is in back and white.

One step forward from the black and white movies was the combination black and white and color films where there is a mix of black and white and color in one film. One of the most successful of all times Steven Spielberg filmed 1993's Holocaust drama "Schindler's List" in black and white with the single use of red color with the little girl sweater, representing the loss of the color in life.

Another brave artistic attempt was Robert Rodriguez in "Sin City" (2005) - a movie with a surreal spin on comics. Without much color, it was a celebration of color and an amazing piece of art.

The combination movies - Black and white and color became an artistic way to present ideas and messages. They have been used successfully to move people from the black and white mindset to the lively colorful mindset, like presented in "Pleasantville" (1998).

Like in any photograph or a painting, the real art is in the successful manipulation of lights, the black and white movies are another artistic way to represent life, with all its colors.

What Dreams May Come (1992)

Who would ever forget the story of husband and a father who literally went from heaven to hell just to rescue his wife and be together with her again? Who would ever forget Chris and Annie meeting again in another life to continue their tale? Nobody would ever forget. An undying love for each other is felt by those who have seen the movie; a promise of a continuation of a love story after death makes this movie timeless.

Pretty Woman (1990)

Ghost (1990)

Sam and Molly are happy together. With their love for each other, they know of nothing that can come between them - or so they thought. Sam died. A story of an 'undying' love of a ghost, he wanted to rescue his girlfriend from danger. He tried everything just to communicate with Molly through a psychic named Oda Mae Brown - and he did. Along with its movie soundtrack, the movie swept the hearts of the movie watchers.

Sleepless in Seattle (1993)

A son who tried everything to find a woman who is perfect for his dad; a dad who thought he can manage on his own; and a woman who has become so attached to the story of the father and son. This is where the story of Sleepless in Seattle goes. But, the most romantic of these all - when the son went to Empire State Building to meet the woman he knew was ideal for his father and a woman who refused a marriage proposal to follow her heart and follow Jonah in the Empire State Building - and finally meet Sam.

It Could Happen to You (1994)

Charlie Lang has a materialistic and discontented wife. Yvonne Biasi has been fooled by her husband who left nothing from their bank account. Their story started with a lottery ticket, which they shared as part of Charlie's promise. He was thrown out of their apartment and she wanted to hide from his husband. Muriel, Charlie's wife, got all the money he and Yvonne won - and they went penniless, but truthfully and happily in love. One day, when they came back at the diner, they were shocked to see a mountain of letters with tips totaling to $600,000!  This is a heart-warming love story that stays in the minds of the people until now.  

As these movies have love stories that successfully touched the minds and the hearts of movie followers, they have written their own history by becoming the top five romantic movies of the 1990s.

Julia Roberts' Top 5 Movies

For a while back in the 1990s, Julia Roberts embodied everything that every woman in America wanted to be. She was sassy, yet refined, beautiful yet down to earth, and fun yet tranquil. Indeed, she's still on the scene, but it would seem that other, younger actresses have taken over. That's great for you, however, because it means that all of her movies will be shown on the classic channels strewn all over satellite TV. Check out the beautiful redhead in the following five films before moving on to the rest of her great work.

Pretty Woman: This movie defined a generation. Set in Los Angeles in the late 1980s, Roberts plays a gorgeous girl who's been forced into prostitution due to some unfortunate circumstances. Picked up by a wealthy businessman (played by Richard Gere), she quickly falls in love. We won't spoil the rest of the story, but be assured that there's a happy ending. If nothing else, watch this just for how great you'll feel afterwards.

Notting Hill: Cast opposite the always enjoyable Hugh Grant, Roberts plays a (wait for it) American movie star besieged by the press while vacationing in London. She somehow ends up trapped in Grant's home, looking to get away from the irascible paparazzi. Complete opposites, the two fall quickly fall in love. Like Pretty Woman, it's a heart warming tale of the power of love.

Erin Brockovich: Crusading against greedy utility companies, Roberts brings the true story of Ms. Erin Brockovich to the silver screen. This is a gripping emotional rollercoaster, so be prepared with a box of tissues. The only thing more amazing than Robert's portrayal of Erin Brockovich is the fact that she actually exists in real life.

Hook: Hook is a classic film that is instantly recognizable to anyone who was born in the 1980s. A sequel to the story of Peter Pan, Hook put Robin Williams opposite Julia Roberts, with an ensemble cast of adorable kids terrorizing an island. If you have young kids, this is a great movie to screen once they've finished their homework.

The Mexican: Roberts made The Mexican with her longtime friend Brad Pitt. Though it was originally advertised as a romantic comedy, that's not quite accurate; in fact, the two spend barely any time on stage together. The entire story revolves around Pitt's character's attempt to smuggle a weapon from Mexico and back into the States. As you can imagine, the charisma put forth by Roberts and Pitt make this a must-see.

Julia Roberts is a great actress, up there with Audrey Hepburn and Elizabeth Taylor as one of the classiest women to ever grace the silver screen. Though she has taken several long-term breaks from acting, she's currently back in the business, so you can look forward to catching her in new movies including The Friday Night Knitting Club. Until that comes out, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for Roberts on satellite TV.

The Top Ten Mermaid Movies Ever

Most people have seen Disney's "The Little Mermaid" animated movie. But there are several others which are absolutely excellent - classics. Here they are:

1. My top pick for a mermaid movie is "Splash". Not only is it funny and the plot wonderful, but there is quite a bit of awesome footage of Daryl Hannah mermaiding in the ocean. We can't get enough of that! Keep in mind that this is not a children's movie. It was made in the '80s, and for the most part it is okay for the family to watch. But there is a little bit of nudity (when the mermaid is walking into New York out of the ocean with nothing but her long hair to cover her) and there is some implication of what she and the Tom Hanks character are doing in the elevator, though nothing is shown. The movie is wonderful, with a great story and awesome mermaid footage and lots of laughs, as well as a great romance.

2. My second top choice is "The Secret of Roan Inish". This is a safe, quiet movie the entire family can enjoy. It was made in Ireland, and as such is slower and quieter than most American movies. It is about a little Irish girl who moves to live with her grandparents. While there she unwittingly stumbles upon the mystery surrounding the island the family used to live on, called "Roan Inish" (Island of the Seals). As she slowly solves the mystery, she brings healing and unity back to the family. In this movie the mythical creature is a selkie, not a mermaid. The selkie lives in the form of a seal. On occasion she climbs up on a rock and removes her seal skin, revealing a beautiful woman. So this movie is a little bit different, and you will never look at a seal the same way again.

3. My third favorite mermaid movie is "Aquamarine." This one is geared to the teen crowd. It has nothing unseemly, so the whole family can enjoy it. It's a delightfully different rendition of the classic Little Mermaid story, with a wonderful surprise ending. The mermaid in this movie is different, more like a regular teen girl. There are several good shots of her in the water. The messages in this movie are high quality, such as loyalty, friendship, personal confidence, selflessness and courage. And it is also very funny.

4. Number four of my top mermaid movies is an old black and white classic called "Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid." You will have a challenge finding this movie to watch, but VHS versions are available for sale on Amazon.com. All of the underwater footage was filmed in the famous Weeki Wachee Springs in Weeki Wachee, Florida, only a year after this underwater theater opened. Made in 1948, this movie is about a married couple taking a vacation in the Caribbean. The man is almost 50 and is having a mid-life crisis. While on vacation he accidentally fishes up a live mermaid from the sea! Ann Blyth plays the enchanting mermaid and you will love this wonderful film. The only objections a parent might have is the theme of extramarital flirting, and some funny scenes with a guy trying to give up smoking.

5. One that is a little different, and which only recently came out, is a Japanese anime Miyazaki movie called "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea", or simply "Ponyo". In this one the fish-girl is depicted as a goldfish with a human face, which is rather strange. But in an unusual twist, this five-year-old fish-girl has to get the little five-year-old human boy to love her faithfully, or she will turn into sea foam and be no more. It is such a sweet interpretation, these small children learning to love and trust each other in such an innocent way. It is a tale of wonder and courage and should not be missed.

6. My pick for number six is Disney's "The Little Mermaid". It was the movie that got Disney back into the popular movie business again in the 1980s. The music and story are a delight. I remember how enchanted I was when it first came out - it is a delightful mermaid movie, fun for the whole family.

7. Number seven for me is the Russian adaptation of "The Little Mermaid." This 1976 film shows plenty of wonderful mermaid footage under the sea. Back then the swimmers had only small flippers, so they had to ripple their legs in a very quick motion for movement. The underwater scenes are only in the beginning of the movie, but they are marvelous!! (I can't figure out how those swimmers could be in the water with all those jellyfish!!). You can find this movie to rent at Netflix and it is directed by Vladimir Bychkov. Again, this version of Anderson's famous story is a little different, almost a completely new story. Be forewarned that there is nudity in one scene, and portrayals of a witch performing magic. Other than those the whole family will enjoy this one.

8. "Barbie Mermaidia" is a little-kid movie, but the plot is good and the scenes are beautiful. I especially enjoyed the unusual design of Barbie's mermaid tail. In this story the main character has to make great sacrifice, and learns some good lessons. I like this one better than the newest Barbie mermaid movie because of its great message.

9. There was much excitement this year over the new release of "Barbie in a Mermaid Tail." This one has wonderfully fun surfboarding scenes. The mermaid world of Oceana was a little strange - basically a mimic of our materialistic society. This made it funny but in this setting you lose the mystery and magic of legendary mermaids. This is what I call a "fluff" movie - nothing deep, just fun images and a nice little story.

10. My least favorite mermaid movie is a kid movie called "Roxy Hunter and the Myth of the Mermaid." It's about a young small-town journalist named Roxy who gradually discovers her new homeless friend (a beautiful blond) is actually a mermaid. The movie is okay but throughout the entire film there are no underwater scenes or scenes with a mermaid in a tail - none - until after the very end. Then, finally, you see about 10 seconds of the blond mermaid swimming underwater with a gorgeous tail. The story is interesting enough, however, and children will certainly enjoy this movie.

Top 10 Disney Movies

Over the years, Disney has produced some of the most memorable movies. They have taught us about finding the truth inside of our hearts, and given us the strength to make it through the hard times. With characters cut from real life, we'll take a moment to look at the top 10 Disney movies.

# 10 Robin Hood

Disney sported a fox for the title character and brought the timeless classic to the big screen. It gave young viewers the chance to see that sometimes doing the right thing might seem like it is wrong to others, and gave us brave heroics.

Everyone has a dream that is set to come true, and that is what this tale is about. Even in the darkest moments of our lives, there is the chance to find our fairytale ending. More importantly, we learn about friendship and trusting those in our lives.

This movie took us on a magic carpet ride that taught us about friendship and faith, while giving us a good chuckle thanks to Robin Williams. With some of the best hand drawn animation that Disney every put out, this is one of the most memorable movies of all time.

Heartbreaking and real, the film was about growing up and finding out that even in our darkest hours we can find the truth. This is one of the few times that a movie has touched many people in dramatic ways, and was brilliantly done with strong vocal actors.

Taking away from the traditional Disney princess heroes, Mulan showed a new and exciting side to the Disney Legacy. This classic tale delivered a number of emotional blows while holding a solid story and delivering a beautiful soundtrack that many will always remember.

Growing up different can be hard for some people. But for Ariel, it just seemed part of her life. With an award winning soundtrack and a mesmerizing storyline, this animated tale quickly became one of the best films from Disney. This was the one time that Disney truly shined with the different is beautiful concept.

This classic was the groundbreaking film for Disney. Brilliantly written and drawn, children today still love the tale of Snow White and the 7 new friends she made in the middle of the woods. A beautiful tale about love that isn't quite a fairy tale and it is done brilliantly. Here, we have two lovers who are from different walks of life. This is a phenomenal classic that shouldn't be missed.

From Elton John's award winning soundtrack to detailed scenery this coming of age story has captured the hearts of millions. In this tale we learn about the inner truth and strength in ourselves and have the ability to push forward, even in the darkest of times. It was also the first Disney movie to get a sequel, and rightfully so. This is among the best that Disney has ever offered the viewing public.

The ultimate love story was one that had people stop dead in their tracks. Not only did this movie offer brilliant vocal talents and an award winning song that broke the hearts of millions, but it also gave us the hope that in all of us there is something special, and no matter what our shell looks like, there will be someone out there that will see the inner beauty in us, and fall in love with that person. Because as Gaston proved, beauty is only skin deep.

Each of these movies will hold a place in our hearts for years to come. These are timeless classics that even today seem modern and relevant in our culture and society as well.

The list of the "top animated movies of all time" falls into an entirely different category to all other movies. In the past animated movies were created by artists who drew endless pictures of moving figures. Today, animation is based on the advanced technology of the age. The modern animator sits and manipulates the images on the computer.

In the past, animated movies were for only for kids. Coloured movies like Snow White or Cinderella. Now a days you can find grown ups sitting in cinemas with no children in sight watching movies like Shrek and Nemo.

In our family, we make sure we go see all the animated movies so we can joke and laugh, and recite them at dinnertime together. Animation is no longer only for the young ones.

While many people think that sequels are just leveraging the first movie and have nothing extra to give the audience, we can learn from the list of the top animated movies that sequels have a great advantage and have a potential to break profit records. Shrek 2 and Toy Story are great indicators of that.

Because animation is based on technology, and many of the animated movies are computer generated, it is funny to write, "Top animated movies". The progress of technology is speeding so fast that by the time I finish writing this article, a new animated movie, made with new technology, will jump into the top 10 list of the most profitable movies of all time.

The Top 5 Movies of 2008

These are the films that made us laugh, the films that made us cry, and the films that brought us out of our seats. Some were blockbusters, while others slipped across the silver screen without much critical acclaim. Of course, many people will find this list to be completely off, as is only natural. For our legal team's benefit, these picks are highly subjective and should by no means be taken as definitive. That said, make absolutely sure to check out each one on satellite TV at your earliest convenience.

Slumdog Millionaire: Set in the slums of Mumbai, India, Slumdog Millionaire is a powerful story of the vast capabilities of the human spirit. Though the plot revolves around a young Indian boy, one could almost make the argument that the story is uniquely American in that it is a classic "pulled up by the bootstraps" tale. We won't give away any more of the story, but suffice it to say that this will be one of the most drama packed two hours you'll encounter in a movie theater this year. Slum Dog's recent Oscar nomination is certainly well deserved.

The Dark Knight: Heath Ledger's last hurrah is a wild three hour ride through the streets of Gotham. Though it lacks the tightness of Christian Bale's first casting as Batman, the Dark Knight is certainly still worth your time. Most critics agree that Ledger's portrayal of the Joker is equal to (if not better than) Jack Nicholson's performance from the 1980s. That's no small feat. Indeed, the makeup that the Joker sports in the Dark Knight is more than enough to keep kiddies up at night. When you add his creepy demeanor, you'll understand why he's a sure lock for this year's Best Actor award.

Son of Rambow: This movie probably doesn't really have a place on this list, but it would be a disservice to leave Sly's latest flick off of it. That's not mentioning that he's a pretty scary guy, and you never know who's reading what on the Internet. Though a worthy addition to the Rambow pantheon, Son of Rambow doesn't have quite the same appeal as its 1970s and 1980s brethren. Still, the action scenes are phenomenal, and you'll want to catch them on high definition television to really do them justice.

Religilous: Either you love Bill Maher, or you hate him. If it's the latter in your case, we highly suggest skipping this flick. For fans of the comic, however, it's a must see. His exploration of the more laughable points of the world's religions are entertaining, if nothing else.

Rachel Getting Married: We'll end the list with an Indie movie, and quite a powerful one at that. Rachel Getting Married is the story of the strength of sisterhood. A marriage in the family brings Kyrn leaves rehab to come back home for her sister's wedding, everything starts to come undone. Well acted, well directed, and well written, Rachel Getting Married is one that you won't want to miss.

Best Kids Movies in 2009 by Popular Demand

When taking a look at what might be the Best Kids Movies in 2009, a number of different ideas can enter in such as strictly the "best" new release movies, the best movie sales in theatres, best by critical acclaim, etc., etc.

I decided to boil this subject down to a simple list of movies that were most popular by sales in the formats of DVD and Blu-Ray - they do in fact include some new releases for the year of 2009, but there are some re-makes of classics this year that come toward the top of the list.

And what a list! Here it is:

1. Disney Pixar Up - Yes, Disney and Pixar have done it again. This is one of the most entertaining Pixar movies yet! The story is about an elderly balloon salesman that decides to fulfill his dream (in a way many people would consider a bit unusual) - and there are some others along for the ride. This is a nice movie for kids of any age and is very amusing!

2. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - The sixth year at Hogwarts brings the most adventure yet - Harry discovers his exact role in the final defeat of Voldemort. Another great Harry Potter movie, and a "must see" for any Harry Potter fan.

3. Coraline - This movie has the same director as The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. It might be considered the "darkest" of them all! It is about a young girl named Coraline who desires major changes in her family relationships - but perhaps discovers that her life might not be so bad after all... (As a note, I don't personally recommend this movie for very young kids due to it's "spooky" and more than a bit bizarre nature.)

4. High School Musical 3: Senior Year - In this High School Musical version, Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Chad, Ryan and Taylor are in their final year of high school and they decide together to make it the most unforgettable year yet. A fun movie, especially for young ones who love these characters and/or movies.

5. Pinocchio 70th Anniversary - Here is the first of the "classics" on the list of the Best Kids Movies 2009, and it's a delightful movie for any age. The re-make of this movie is rather spectacular, and the message of courage, honesty and integrity is always a good one.

6. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Yes, here is another movie on the hottest sellers for kids this year! It's impressive how the movie appears and sounds in digital format - especially Blu-Ray. This is a favorite for very young kids and little ladies too.

7. Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs - The plot thickens for the unlikely prehistoric crew when Mannie and Ellie are expecting a little Mammoth in their family. It creates some interesting changes in the crew and some rather amusing events take place. Fun movie!

8. The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary - This is the third and final of the classic movies on this list and is an amazing re-make of the original. In my opinion this is another movie that is not the best for very young children - that wicked old witch can be just a tad bit too scary, but is a fun movie for families and kids about 6 or 7 and older.

9. Monsters vs. Aliens - This is one of the cutest newer movies on this list! The theme has an interesting twist - what if monsters were actually the good guys? A fun choice and a nice job by Reese Witherspoon who plays the main character, Susan Murphy.

10. Bolt - Personally I think this is one of the cutest movies I have seen for kids. It is about a dog who stars as a superhero in film and begins to take the role a bit too seriously. The plot thickens when he loses his owner and has to go out on his own to find her. John Travolta plays the role of Bolt and does a fabulous job!

Some may disagree with one or more of the movies above in terms of what they consider to be the "Best Kids Movies 2009", but strictly in terms of popular demand the above selections appear to comprise the definitive list. Speaking on a personal level I believe that these are some of the best movies for kids ever!

Top Ten Best Action Movies

Here are the ten best action movies that got our adrenaline pumping and the dynamite exploding. We love action movies and have seen hundreds in our time.

10. Robocop: A cop is transformed after he is brutally murdered execution style by a notorious gang leader. He becomes a super crime fighter, a Robo Cop who is mostly machine with some remnants of his human memory/life. This film had lots of innovative fight scenes with robots, when that was the huge craze and robots were just becoming known in the late 80's. Interestingly, Darren Aronofsky has been hired to film the remake, and Aronofsky is a brilliant director (The Fountain, The Wrestler, Requiem for a Dream).

9. Commando: One of Arnold's earlier films in the 80's, the title speaks for itself. Schwarzenegger is on a mission to get back his kidnapped daughter, and not even an army will stand in his way. "You know when I said I'd kill you last... I lied." This is Arnold doing what he does best, shooting machine guns and blowing stuff up. A movie where you don't have to think.

8. Mission Impossible: Another great film with suspense and excitement. The Mission Impossible team is stealthy and sneaky. Suspended above lasers detection and holding on for dear life as an elevator rockets towards the ceiling. This message will self destruct in five seconds.

7. Rocky: You gotta love this one, "Yo Adrian!". Rocky Balboa is the prototypical Philly Boxer, he don't know much, but he can fight. This series was full of excitement except for Rocky V, that one sucked. But with Rocky heads up against fighters like Apollo, Clubber, and Drago, there is tons of boxing action!

6. The Transporter: Fast cars, fast fighting, and hot women. What could be better? Not much, "The Transporter" has it all and like to show off. The car chase scenes and fight choreography are to be admired. The plot is intriguing too, the women, are the package to be delivered.

5. Rambo: An ex special forces guy who can take out an entire police department with a rock and some sharp sticks. The Rambo series show us that with enough will power and makeshift technology, one man can be "an army of one". One thing you don't want to do is get on Rambo's bad side. And yes they've made too many in the series, Stallone obviously never says die.

4. Aliens: The first and second and resurrection films in this series were well done. The Aliens depicted in these films are not to be messed with. They are scary looking and will haunt your dreams. Only flamethrowers and a helluva lot of ammunition will take them down. And even then after you shoo them, there could be acid splash back at you. Only Ripley seems to know how to take them down, and maybe that's because she is carrying one of them inside her, and they don't want to kill their own. These Aliens are like worker ants only much bigger and much deadlier. The hierarchy is the same though.

3. Predator: How do you kill what you can't see? Arnold thinks "if it bleeds we can kill it". Easier said than done as the Predator lives for the hunt and wants humans for trophies. His technology is vastly superior to the measly humans, but lucky for them he will fight on their level for "honor". This is the only weakness that allow Arnold to have a sporting chance.

2. Terminator: First Schwarzenegger plays a cyborg from the future that comes to kill Sarah Connor, then in T2 he plays one that comes to save Jon Connor to fight for the resistance against Sky Net. I don't know why but I always think that this apocalyptic scenario is always possible with our technology available. We all await to see whether Terminator: Salvation will be a blockbuster or a failure.

1. Die Hard: "yippy ka yay" This film has action ingrained in its cellophane. Most definitely the best action film of all time. An NYPD cop is trapped in Nakatomi plaza with a bunch of terrorist who hold his wife's co workers hostage at during an office party. John McClane slips away when they seize control, and manages to undermine and kill off the terrorist one by one. John McTiernan directed this film along with the Predator film, and does an impeccable job.

The Top Movies on Movie Lists

For the past 10 years or so it has been discussed and argued about which movies are truly the best movies. Below, I will go through some of the most popular movie list sources and dissect the validity.

The AFI Top Movies of all time: Since 1998 and as recent as this year, many great movies have been posted to this list. It always begins with Citizen Kane as the top movie of all time and then ending with which ever movie deserved to be on the movie list the last time. Some have been kicked off since 1998 and some new ones have been added. One of the oddest additions has to be "The Sixth Sense." While recognized as a shocker and one that has possibly changed how endings are made, it is now mostly known as a good overall movie, but has not aged well. The AFI Top Movie List is compiled by critics, writers, journalists, creators, producers, etc. The validity of the list is definitely not mainstream as 70% of the American Population has not heard of half of the movies that appear on the list. None the less, most of the movies on the list are incredible movies if watched with an open mind. They are more than just movies.

Roger Ebert's great movie list.: How can one man say he knows what movies are the greatest of all time - and why would people believe him? Simple, he is a creative writer, fairly mainstream in nature, and rarely negative. He likes all kinds of movies. He does not rank each of his movies, but does some times say roughly where he would put his movies on a list. He believes strongly in what he thinks. He rarely changes his mind. His problem is that he has way too many films on his list. He also includes his favorites that don't really apply to most people's tastes. It's ok, because it is his list and not a computation.

Time Magazine: This may be the least familiar list. There are 1000 movies on it and all are noteworthy. But, there are a lot of sleepers. "The Fly" is one that comes to mind. It is a solid sci-fi, but does not fall on any major list (or many minor lists). Most of the movies many people have not heard of. It is a good list to go by for advanced movie watchers (once they have watched the entire AFI).

The final list that will be reviewed is IMDB (internet movie database). It is one of the few internet only movie lists. It is compiled by 100s of 1000s of votes. This is a list compiled by normal users, critics, and anyone who has internet access. IMDB is a great list to go by for novices and experts. Its top movies do change regularly, which is a good thing as it gives new movies a chance to make the list.

None of the lists are perfect, and none of them are bad. A good rule of thumb is to use all lists - watch all movies on the lists, and then tell others about it. Enjoy the greatest movies of all time!

Top 5 Fighter Plane Movies

There are two things we're all looking for in a good fighter plane movie: fighter planes, and non-stop action. Some films that claim to be fighter plane movies contain plenty of the latter but surprisingly few of the former. I'm not naming any names here, but *cough* Firefox *cough*. If you've only got two hours of spare time, you've got one shot at choosing the right movie. The following five films are the best of the best of the genre. They should be the first films you reach for on the DVD rack.

#5. Into the Sun

A fighter pilot on active duty overseas has to put up with an annoying movie star following him everywhere - even into combat - as research for his new film role.

Few people have ever heard of (or can find a copy of) Into the Sun, which is a shame, because it's one of the cleverest, funniest films in the genre. #4. Flyboys

A World War I fighter pilot stationed with the famous Lafayette squadron in France struggles to fend off the Germans and protect the French woman he's falling in love with.

This is a must-see for anyone who thinks biplanes are boring. The greater danger these pilots faced because of the fragility of their equipment makes the dogfight sequences in Flyboys some of the most tense and harrowing in the genre.

#3. Battle of Britain

In the summer of 1940, a small group of British pilots fight desperately to keep the Nazi Luftwaffe from bombing their country into submission and opening the way for a land invasion.

There is only one word for the aerial sequences in Battle of Britain: amazing. With so many planes in the air, it looks like a nest of angry hornets, and the best part is that they're all real. There was no CGI in 1969. The story is a bit confusing for people who don't know their history, but the massive dogfights more than make up for it.

#2. Top Gun

A cocky young fighter pilot gets his chance to go up against the best pilots in the Navy when he's chosen for the fighter weapons school nicknamed "Top Gun."

It's very 80s, especially in the soundtrack, but hardly a minute goes by where we're not treated to heartstopping aerial action. Always a solid pick.

A fighter pilot is forced to go head to head with his own wingman: a futuristic, artificially intelligent fighter plane that has gone rogue.

Top 10 Romantic Movies of Hollywood

Movies have always created an aura of magic and charm in the world of dream. A larger than life portrayal of characters, which make deep impressions in the sensitive minds of film lovers, remain forever. Hundreds of films are being made every year. But only a few movies can create that magic spell on its viewers. These dreams which are gracefully created on the silver screen, make a permanent place in the hearts of millions of movie lovers.

It is very hard for anyone to select the top10 romantic movies of a lifetime. Since every good romantic film has its own charm and delicacy. Even then, there are very few films, which never loose its charm even with age.

One film like that has to be" Roman Holiday" which starred Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. A glamorously created movie set in Rome. It is the tale of a beautiful princess who is bored with her daily routine of grandeur and opulence. So she sets off for a quick look at the regular life of ordinary people and ends up at the quaint little apartment of Gregory Peck who happens to be a journalist. Thus the romance starts between the princess and the pauper. The dramatic and yet unhappy ending of this film makes it immortal in its genre.

A second film in the romantic category has got be "Anastasia" starring Yule Breyner and Grace Kelly. Though a Russian folk tale, the film was adapted and created esthetically in the backdrop of Russia. It is the ultimate dream made visible on the celluloid. The fantasy and fairy tale romance between gorgeous Grace Kelly and tough Yule Breyner makes this film an evergreen tale of romance.

At third place there is "Walk In The Clouds", which stars Keanu Reeves and Aitana Sanchez-Gijon. Shot in northern California the film narrates a very mushy love between two strangers in the beautiful intoxicating vineyards of northern California.

Fourth, a film that comes to mind is a different kind of a love story, which is named "Ghost" starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. The name says it is not a love between two mortal human beings but between a wife and her dead husband, who loves his lovely wife so dearly that even after his death he protects her from every possible danger. Then comes Whoopi Goldberg whose character becomes immortal as ever. She even won her first Oscar for this role. Did I miss to say that Ghost was her first film?

Fifth, "Pearl Harbor" takes its place in the list of top 10 movies. This movie is set in the backdrop of the second world war and the notorious destruction caused by the Japanese on the Pearl Harbor. Kate Bekinsale and Ben Afflek looked like a twosome in this film. It is a real love story in the time of distress. The cinematography was excellent as were the songs, which were sung by Faith Hill.

Sixth comes "Titanic", an all time favorite of everyone. The famous song sung by Celine Dion has made a permanent place in the hearts of millions.

Seventh comes "When Harry met Sally", a fun movie to watch. Meg Ryan is marvelous in this movie. A romantic comedy in genre, this film is a delight to watch.

Eighth, it is "Pretty Woman" a heart-warming movie with all the commercial ingredients. The star cast is the main attraction of this movie.

Ninth, it is '"You've Got Mail" starring the evergreen pair Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks. This film is a first of its kind.

And lastly it is none other than "Splash", which is again a very unusual love story between a mermaid played by swimmer Daryll Hannah and a small time employee characterized by Tom Hanks.

Ace Ventura Pet Detective:

This is often rated as the most hilarious and most mind-blank comedy movie of all time. This Jim Carrey flick enabled him to gain fame as the most comic hero of the century. Ace Ventura has some scenes where you find yourself falling down laughing at the idiotic activities of the protagonist. And this has also been considered Jim Carrey's funniest movie ever.

Zoolander:

Another popular comedian, Ben Stiller, takes to his wits in this movie with Will Farrell. This is a great comedy to watch at home in your home theater with family and friends. You will laugh almost throughout the movie. The digital copy of the movie is available in Blu-ray format too.

Royal Tanenbaums:

This is a dark comedy with some meaning in it. Though this won't make you laugh like a mad man, this comedy is still considered a very good comedy movie thanks to some clever and funny scenes which make it one of my great comedy movies of all time.

Me, Myself And Irene - This is another good comedy by comedy king, Jim Carrey. The character of Hank makes the movie worth watching. It is available in both DVD and Blu-ray formats. The split personality of Jim Carrey would make anyone laugh like a maniac.

Pineapple Express:

You will realize watching this movie why Seth Rogen is often called the best comic actor of recent years. He proves to be a really funny guy in this movie along with other funny guys like Red and Saul.

Austin Powers:

International Man Of Mystery - While preparing the list of my best comedies of all time one won't be able to exclude this adventurous and hilarious journey of Austin Powers himself.

Happy Gilmore:

Adam Saddler is known for his comedies and if you want to see him doing his best comedy, get Happy Gilmore this weekend.

Life Of Brian:

Top Five Vampire Movies of All Time

Vampires have always fascinated us. Their preternatural strength, pale white skin, and penchant for blood is strangely alluring and yet grotesque all at once. People simply like vampires, despite the fact that they are supposed to be minions of hell, just look at shows like Buffy and True Blood (both of which you can still catch, courtesy of satellite TV). Our fascination with the undead has produced a whole array of movies, good and bad. Here's a look at some of the best of the bunch.

Interview with a Vampire: Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Antonio Banderas all playing vampires. Enough said. The movie, based on the Anne Rice novels, is vampire cinema at its perfect pitch. You've got the brooding, the atmosphere, the regret, the longing, the sultry southern setting, the fangs, and of course, the blood. This vampire flick makes vampires look vulnerable and sexy all at once. Who can resist? And then there's the very young Kirsten Dunst playing the child vampire Claudia. The doomed trio, Lestat, Louis and Claudia make one happily damned family, until things start getting rough. Catch this one on satellite TV.

Shadow of a Vampire: Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich star in this vampire tale. Malkovich depicts the director F. W. Murnau as he films his classic Nosferatu. Dafoe plays the actor Max Schreck, a method actor who will only perform in full costume and makeup at all times. The cast later learns that Schreck is actually a real vampire. He has struck a deal with Murnau, who promise the vampire the actress Greta Schroeder as his prize. In the end, the cast and crew of the set is terrorized, Schroeder meets a grisly fate and Murnau loses his mind. This is a great little Vampire movie. Watch it and enjoy.

From Dusk to Dawn: This is camp and gore at its best. From Dusk to Dawn stars George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino as a pair of murdering assassin robbers who stumble into the wrong part of town. The movie suddenly shifts to the bizarre mid plot. First we're following the escaped robbers as they terrorize a young family; next, it's vampires and Salma Hayek doing a sexy snake dance. This movie is seriously crazy, but in a good way. Watch all the blood and gore in HD. Don't forget the popcorn.

30 Days of Night: This movie is all about the gore. Based on the graphic novel, this movie takes place in a dark and dreary Alaska. The town of Barrow is shrouded in darkness for thirty days and the vampires come out to play. It's good stuff. You've got lots of spilled guts and bloods, great for HD viewing. Check out the action on satellite TV.

Nosferatu: This is of course, a classic of classics. Nosferatu was filmed by the famed director FW Murnau. It features the long eared Count Orlock, a spectacle of creepiness. Although it's from way back in 1922, this film still manages to spook you.

Another hot summer of cool movies that kids will love is upon us. Here is a list of the best bets, based on early info.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, PG, May 22 - Ben Stiller is back as a security guard who must deal with all too realistic museum displays: this time in DC. With cast of name stars, this one should be fine if your youngsters liked the first movie and want more.

Up, PG, May 29 - Pixar's computer animated films are usually a no-question required kid viewing. This one features a grumpy old man voiced by Ed Asner who ties balloons to his house and departs on an aerial adventure.

Land of the Lost, PG-13, June 5 - Will Farrell heads the reboot of this '70s Saturday morning kid's classic. Why does a children's show adaptation have a PG-13 rating? We suspect the dinosaurs get a bit rough and the land gets a bit too creepy. Take caution with the small fry with this one.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, June 3 - The second sequel to the popular animated Ice Age, this one resurrects new animal characters from an earlier era. The trailer looks like great fun. Not yet rated, expect a PG rating, as the first 2 films had.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, PG-13, July 15 - This sixth time out for Harry Potter is a no-miss for the young Potter fan, and promises many new magical moments as the Harry and his friends struggle with adolescence. Many say that the series has become progressively darker and more disturbing, but older kids should enjoy it.

G-Force, PG, July 24 - This new Disney animated offering a heroic team of guinea pig secret agents save the world. Will Arnett appears as live-action leader to cute animated rodents voiced by Nicolas Cage and Penأ©lope Cruz.

Aliens in the Attic, July 31 - Based on Caldecott award winning children's novel, a group of teens protect a family vacation home from gremlins-like aliens. Features Hanna Montana's Ashley Tisdale and experienced monster fighter Carter Jenkins (Surface).

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, August 7 - This much hyped action film names an elite team of crimefighters after the classic Mattel toy. It features an impressive cast headed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sienna Miller. Not yet rated, but look for a hard PG-13 for this one.

Shorts, PG, August 7 - This one looks like another fun special effects filled offering for and about kids from the director of the Spy Kids series. This time a boy creates havoc in the suburbs when he discovers a rock that grants wishes to the holder.

Ponyo, August 14 - Disney adds an all-star voice cast to this anime film by Oscar winning Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. It tells a fairy tale-like story of a little boy who befriends a goldfish that longs to be a human princess.

Top 5 Teen Movies of All Time - In My Opinion

There are 5 movies that I watched as a young teen and even now I would be happy to watch over and over again - I cannot wait until my kids are a little older so I have an excuse to watch them all over again. I could not decide on what order to place them in - so in no particular order the five movies I would recommend everyone watch are:

The Goonies - an American adventure-comedy film from 1985 directed by Richard Donner. The screenplay was written by Chris Columbus from a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. A band of kids from the "Goon Docks" neighbourhood of Astoria, Oregon, hope to save their homes from demolition for the expanding Astoria Country Club, set off on an adventure to find the buried treasure of One-Eyed Willy, a legendary 17th-century pirate after finding a map in the attic. Stars Sean Astin and Corey Feldman in a fun filled action packed movie about friendship, first kisses, adventure, gadgets, crooks, pirates and treasure.

Gremlins - Billy (Zach Galligan), receives a small furry creature called a Mogwai as a Christmas present from his grandfather with three instructions to follow: 1. Never expose the Mogwai to bright lights, 2. Never put it in water and 3. Never feed it after midnight. Billy names his Mogwai 'Gizmo'. Billy and Gizmo bond, but Billy's friend Pete accidentally spills a glass of water over Gizmo, causing five more Mogwai to spawn. These five turn out to be a little more mischievous. They manage to trick Billy into feeding them after midnight and it is not long before chaos erupts in the small town of Kingston Falls.

Back To The Future - An American science fiction adventure comedy film from Steven Spielberg released in 1985 starring Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Film tells the story of Marty McFly, a teenager accidentally sent back in time from 1985 to 1955. He bumps into his parents in high school and accidentally attracts his mother's romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his parents to fall in love, whilst finding a way to return to 1985.

Lost Boys - is a 1987 American horror film about two brothers from Arizona who move to California and end up fighting a group of teenage vampires. It stars Jason Patric, Corey Haim and Kiefer Sutherland, with co-stars Jami Gertz, Corey Feldman, Dianne West, Edward Herrmann, Alex Winter, Jamison Newlander and Barnard Hughes. The film was directed by Joel Schumacher and has to be one of the best vampire movies ever produced with the coolest soundtrack.

Ghostbusters - is a 1984 American comedy film written by co-stars Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis about three eccentric New York City parapsychologists-turned-ghost exterminators. After losing their jobs at Columbia University, a trio of misfit parapsychologists: Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz and Egon Spengler start their own paranormal exterminator service called 'Ghostbusters'. They operate out of an abandoned fire station and get off to a slow start..."Who you gonna call?"

Confession time: I still have my 'Gizmo' from the 80's! But The 'Goonies' is probably my favourite of the 5 if I had to choose.

Top 5 Tom Hanks Movies

Tom Hanks is quite possibly the best actor of our time. He has played a variety of roles in a variety of great movies. To narrow down his "best" movies to 5 is no easy task. However, I will give it a go.

When taking into account the quality of the movie and the quality of his acting, these are the five best:

5. Castaway

This is a great love story. But the plane crash is an awesome action sequence. And Hanks is exceptional on the island and when he returns back to civilization.

In this movie must be the only time in the history of movies that viewers cried over a grown man losing a ball.

4. Big

This movie put Hanks on the map. No longer was he known as the "cross-dresser from Bossom Buddies".

Hanks plays a 13 (or about that) year old boy who's trying to make it in New York City after being changed into a grown man (made "Bigger").

The story is great and the performance by Hanks is even better.

3. Philadelphia

Hanks took home an Academy Award for his performance in this movie.

He plays a lawyer who is dying from Aids. He as convincing in this role as he is in his role as a leader of soldiers in my next selection.

2. Saving Private Ryan

This is one of the only movies that stuck with me for days after I saw it. There are great performances all around but Hanks leads the group.

This is a must-see movie and it's one of Hanks' best performances.

1. Forrest Gump

Any movie that can have a catch line like "Life is like a box of chocolates" catch-on for years has to be a great movie.

I don't know that any other actor in Hollywood could've played this role as well as Hanks. He wasn't Tom Hanks in this movie. He was... well, Forrest... Forrest Gu-ump.

I must say that there is one more movie that deserves mentioning here. This movie hangs in the abyss between when Hanks made his break-out performance (Big) and his comeback performance (A League of Their Own). It's a movie called The Burbs and it's great. It's not intellectual in anyway but it's funny - hilarious in parts. And it's still one of my all-time favorites (top 50 anyway).
