The Top Animated Movies Of All Times

The list of the "top animated movies of all time" falls into an entirely different category to all other movies. In the past animated movies were created by artists who drew endless pictures of moving figures. Today, animation is based on the advanced technology of the age. The modern animator sits and manipulates the images on the computer.

In the past, animated movies were for only for kids. Coloured movies like Snow White or Cinderella. Now a days you can find grown ups sitting in cinemas with no children in sight watching movies like Shrek and Nemo.

In our family, we make sure we go see all the animated movies so we can joke and laugh, and recite them at dinnertime together. Animation is no longer only for the young ones.

When you go through the top 10 animated movies, you can see they are all new (the oldest one being from 1992)

o The top most animated movie was "Shrek 2" which was a Disney production and came out in theatres in 2004. "Shrek 2" made a total worldwide gross income of $920,665,658. Shrek 2 came out only three years after Shrek first appeared and become one of the most profitable animated movies. (the movie, Shrek is the 9th profitable movie of all times)

o The second best animated movie was "Finding Nemo". DreamWorks Production made this movie and it totaled a worldwide gross income of $864,625,978

o The third animated movie was the oldest movie in the top 10 animation movies of all times. The movie "The Lion King" came out in 1994 and had a total worldwide gross income of $783,841,776

o The 4th animated movie was the Disney movie "The Incredibles" (2004) with a total worldwide gross income of $631,436,092

o The 5th animated movie was "Monster's Inc" (2001) with total worldwide gross income of $529,061,238

o The 6th animated movie was another DreamWorks movie, "Madagascar" (2005) with a total worldwide gross income of $527,890,631

o The seventh animated movie was "Aladdin" in 1992. It was a DreamWorks movie. This movie totaled a worldwide gross income was $504,050,219

o The eighth animated movie was Disney's production "Toy Story 2" from 1999 and had a total worldwide gross income of $485,015,179.

o The ninth animated movie was none other than "Shrek" (2001) with a total worldwide gross income of $484,409,218, almost half of "Shrek 2".

o The 10th animated movie was "Tarzan" (1999). Which was a Disney movie, with a total worldwide gross income of $449,391,819

It is easy to see from the list that DreamWorks and Disney are leading the animation industry and that their move to advanced animation technology has contributed greatly to their success.

While many people think that sequels are just leveraging the first movie and have nothing extra to give the audience, we can learn from the list of the top animated movies that sequels have a great advantage and have a potential to break profit records. Shrek 2 and Toy Story are great indicators of that.

Because animation is based on technology, and many of the animated movies are computer generated, it is funny to write, "Top animated movies". The progress of technology is speeding so fast that by the time I finish writing this article, a new animated movie, made with new technology, will jump into the top 10 list of the most profitable movies of all time.

New Releases on DVD - Top 5 Animated Movies of 2008

Are you interested in animated movies? Every year the technology of computer generated animation improves and there are new and exciting fully animated feature-length movies released.  Some are good, some not so good.  Here are my picks for the top animated movies of 2008 are as follows.

(1) Horton Hears a Who

Starring Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, and Carol Burnett this is a wonderful retelling of a the Dr. Seuss classic.

(2) Wall-E

Wall-E is the waste collecting robot left to rehabilitate earth so that humans can eventually repopulate the planet.  Left to his own devices he creates a home for himself and ultimately finds love.

(3) Bolt

John Travolta stars as Bolt, a dog who's a television star and has no concept of reality. Action and adventure follow when he is accidentally set free in the real world.

(4) The Tale of Despereaux

This movie boasts an all-star cast of Matthew Broderick, Dustin Hoffman, Emma Watson, Tracey Ullman, Kevin Kline, William Macy,  Frank Langella, and more!  The story line revolves around the castle princess, a mouse who would rather read  books than eat them, an unhappy rat, and a girl with cauliflower ears.

(5) Kung Fu Panda

Starring Dustin Hoffman and Jack Black.  Unlikely Po the Panda finds himself living his dream as he is chosen to become the next Dragon Warrior.

Animated films have come a long way, especially computer animated movies.  Most animated movies are entirely or predominatly computer genereated these days.

The 2008 crop of computer and cel animated films was wonderful.    Are you looking to buy any of these movies?

Top Animated Movies

Animated movies are drawing an indiscernible separating boundary between the animation and reality. Animation has been widely used throughout the years, and it is indeed getting better every day. In fact, most of the animation applied into movies is too great, certainly worthy for your pennies.

Among the many best animated movies, Shrek, released in 2001 was one awesome film, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. It was an American movie based on the fairy tale of Willian Steig's book released in 1990. Commercially, it was truly successful and upon its release, it was named as the animated film that fascinated not only young youths but also adults and the elderly. The story lingers about Shrek, the green ogre who claimed that his life was massively intruded by the emergence of other fairytale beings hence coming up with the decision of leaving the swamp thus seeking Farquaad to return his solitude.

The Wall-E is also one of the awesome animated films. It was released in 2008 as a computer-animated science fiction that tells the story of the robot named to be Wall-E. The robot was specially developed to clean up the Earth covered in thrash, predicted to be scene occurring in the far future. It received nomination for Best Sound Mixing in the 81st Academy Awards and was elected also by Academy Awards for the Best Animated Feature.

Looking at several previous best animated movies, Disney did an impressive job during the early 1990s by releasing The Lion King. It made an incredible hit in the filming industry and till now, still remains as the strongest traditionally-animated movie ever released. In fact, the names used in the film - Scar, Mufasa and Simba - are now household names, a contribution from the popularity of the characters in the movie. However, nobody involved in the movie progress ever estimated that the characters would become the few most popular creations of Disney's.

Nemo, being one of the greatest animated films involving the use of celebrity voices to help form the movie itself and make the film into something astounding and incredibly implausible. More often than not, celebrities are just performing their typical duties of using their voices yet regular voice-actions are put out of work. Nemo, however, applied a different system. No doubt, the glory went go Ellen DeGeneres and Albert Brooks as they gave audiences a wonderful vacation into the Nemo, filling in some laughter along the way. Albeit having tons of animated stories about the animal kingdom, the Nemo revolves around the ocean.
